Is the RX-8 becoming "new" again?

I've been in a re-appreciate my RX-8 mood lately, and ironically people keep coming up to me in parking lots and asking what my "new" car is lol, saying it's so neat and different (especially when I have the rear doors open).

It's weird, that happened to me constantly in the first year of owning it back in 2004, but since then the novelty wore off I guess as people got used to seeing them and the attention all but stopped.

But lately it's almost every few days someone comes up to me and comments on the car, assuming it's brand new, especially if I've just washed it. I'm just wondering if it's becoming a novelty again, as people don't seem to know what it is.

As a sidenote, I was vaccuuming under the seats today, and out popped this cylindrical object that was stuck under the passenger seat. It took me a second to realize... omg, it's my MazdaSpeed shift knob I assumed was lost many years ago! LOL, what a wonderful surprise, as I've been reading how they're impossible to find anymore, and I've been all jealous wanting one... and out rolls one from under my seat, lol. How cool is that? It's like the car knows I'm loving it all over again and gave me a present in appreciation ;) What's old is new again!

ha awesome!
I find that people are constantly complimenting my car. It's unique in many ways! I think that's why so many of us here value and appreciate our little 1.3L Renesis :)

I'm interested in finding one of those MS shift knobs! Great find!

Couple of weeks ago, a co-worker lady came up to me when I was getting into the 8, saying: "I was just thinking 'what a cool car' and then I see you opening the door, such a coincidence"...
She was surprised to hear that the car is almost 8 years old, she said she'd have never guessed that. I think that means I must be taking pretty good care of my ride :)

Good observation! Same thing happened to me in a gas station near Tarrytown, NY this spring. Guy couldn't hear enough about my car, had tons of questions.

Once in a while, i get compliments about my car. Here's one, just recently, one day, i was in a gas station, and this guy said that my car looks good. He wanted to own one, and i told him why not, and he told me he has 6 kids and his wife (wasn't with him on that time), don't like small cars...lol
