RX-8 Affecting my Health!

I am to pick up my new RX-8 this afternoon and due to overwhelming love and excitement-I ONLY GOT FOUR HOURS OF SLEEP! Is this behavior normal with the 8? Where's the warning sticker?

On top of it-we are getting a Winter Storm about 3 hours after I pick her up!

Oh the humanity...

OOOOH yeah. It's only just begun. You will lay in bed every night thinking about what mods to add, excuses to drive more, long trips, Zaino, and on-and-on. :)

Yikes! Better wait until the roads are clear. OEM summer tires=very poor winter traction.

Anyway, good luck with your new car. You will LOVE it.

Extremely normal. And expect symptoms to get worse before they get better:) Seriously though, good luck and be careful on the roads. I'm in North Texas and we're going to get the same storm move through here as you. Do yourself a favor and wait a day or so. Even though it may only be a few inches, it doesn't matter. Congrats on the new purchase!!

Thx! I think it affected my health in a positive way too-I dont feel like the 37 yr old that I am. More like my 7 yr old son waiting to open presents on Christmas Eve.

that's funny.. Car is addicting.. But if there is even a speck of snow on the ground don't drive.. OEM tires are really really really (and i can't stress this enough) bad in the snow. I didn't believe it, but when we had light snow and i couldn't get out of my drive way..

Wait until you break it in and are able to bring it up to the beep, that's when the real fun starts happening :)

Yeah-I will let'er sit in the garage for the next few days. Perhaps I can drive it for at least an hour or so before the snow falls. :(

Agreed, but it's not just the snow - it's the cold temperature (as I discovered this morning.) I took a corner pretty fast that usually gives me no problem (90 deg right turn) and my back end slid out a bit. I tried it on another 90 deg left turn and same thing. The only difference is that it's 20 deg (F) here this morning.

These Dunlops are fabulous warm weather performance tires, but not as good in the cold, and they're worse than useless in snow. Buy snow tires if you're going to drive it in snow, or park it.

More time to read the manual and this forum :)

-=Rowdy=- 02-01-2005 10:49 AM

So how are the tires in rain?

8is>enuff 02-01-2005 10:54 AM

Wet. (ba dum dum ting)

And kind of slippery.

You will look forward to changing out the OEM for a replacement when they wear out. There not awful, but there are much better tires out there.

MrJynx 02-01-2005 11:25 AM

in the rain the tires are ok.. dry warm temp and they're amazing.. ie. taking an on ramp which is posted 30km/h @ 100KM/h with no slipping at all :) only prob is the damn leather seats don't really anchor u in, keep hitting the door :)

if it's cold you do have some performance loss, just drive normally and they're not to bad.. the handling is just degraded to a "normal" vehicle :) I've taken the car out in -20celcius (i can't spell anymore) and I was able to drive, just need to be careful and not to speed.

I need to go back to something you said at the start of this thread:

...due to overwhelming love and excitement-I ONLY GOT FOUR HOURS OF SLEEP!
Now this is just not that kind of forum. You just stop that kind of talk!

Welcome to RX-8 madness, and yes, this kind of excitement is normal. Even better, it doesn't really fade. This is the eighth car I've owned, incuding two RX-7's. None of them were as much fun as this one.

Read the manual, read this forum, enjoy!

Wait 'til you find out how much sleep you can lose surfing this forum! I frequently get to bed a couple hours late because of it.

The tires aren't bad in the rain. One of my first drives was in a washout thunderstorm and it did far better than I expected. No bad surprises at all. Just use common sense. Once, I had to drive home on light snow with patches of black ice and it was hairy! Spots where the car would normally tramline a little set it into mild drifts with the nose askew 10 degrees. Just not enough snow here to justify new tires...until I pee the seats in a 360, at least.

The OEM Dunlops do great in the rain, though I haven't tried speeding through standing water yet.

...

Also, in situations like that, the noise produced by a terrified passenger can be annoying. ;)

Dont forget the strong swings of depression filling up that tank 2 times a week.

I just had my first fill up today, I got the car on Sunday and got the sick feeling in my stomach. I mean $2.34 a gallon is alot especially when filling that large tank. But as soon as I got back in the car all was forgotten.

Ahhh-first driving impressions...

Well, I picked up my baby tonite and words cannot describe the joy! I test drove an 8, I have looked at them forever but when I put this thing in the garage-OH MAN!!! Utter beauty! I CANNOT BELIEVE THE ATTENTION IT GETS. I had people drive by and stop in the street in front of my house and stare. What's up with that? I mean its not a Ferrari! I have had a ton of rubber neckers burn holes in my car in the short hour I was on the road.

(Must keep self humble)

I did watch the fuel gauge drop over the first 20 miles. I'm not used to seeing the needle move at all in any car after 20 miles but I was well prepared for it after doing research here and on other sites. I love my car!

Congratulations. Having grown up in Oklahoma, I can only advise that you put a hundred lbs of cement in the truck to cope with being blown all over the road.

I already got it tonite and when I accelerated under a concrete overpass, the sweet rotary echoed off of it and it was AWESOME.
