RX-8 40th AE

I am brand new to the forum. I am in the USAF and am moving back to the states in August and I am buying a new Mazda (was thinking about a 3s/6 or Mazdaspeed 3). I was perusing the dealer's inventory and found a single 40th AE RX-8. Does anyone have one? What do you think?

The sticker on it is $33,524 and it seems like a fair price for a brand new one.

I am not very good with cars (mechanic-wise), but finally I am in a position to buy a super nice car with a little kick and I am a big fan of Mazdas. I assume that the dealer would be the best to conduct all regular maintenance/oil changes and such?

Any comments on this car are welcome! I would really like this car, but if I have to, I'll get a 3 or a 6...just not as cool :)

Chris

You shouldn't have any trouble gettign $6k knocked off of that sticker in rebates and discounts.

At a time like this, like Revitup said. You can knock it down 3-6k Easy with the 2009's out. I have a 40th and it's great. I love my Cosmo red seats with the metropolitan grey.

Thank you! I just talked to the dealer and he said the car has been on the lot a while...and I also noticed the 2009 were coming out soon. Hopefully I can get 3-6k off of it like you said!

thecow135 07-16-2008 01:12 PM

hell you can probably try to get it to 25kish.. maybe 26

Detrich 07-16-2008 01:45 PM

is it a 6-speed MT or automatic?

i think most of us would suggest the 6-speed MT...

playdoh43 07-16-2008 01:56 PM

man id aim for 8k, and work it to 6k. :) always be ambitious then work your way up, never try to work your way down.

Kulas 07-16-2008 02:19 PM

It is a 6-speed MT

Thanx for the comments so far!

40AE's are seriously beautiful up close. Right now I bet you could get more than 6k off MSRP. I really hope the car's still there when you get back to the states. You'll love it.

Here's the RX-8 in a nutshell (based on what people complain about the most, even if it is somewhat exaggerated):
1) it's slower than a V6
2) it burns more gas than a V8
3) its resale value is only slightly better than a Yugo ;)

But, you'll find out really quickly that the more you drive it, the less you will care about any of that. It is a driver's car, and there's no way anyone can really explain to you what that means, unless you've driven it.

+1

don't let them give you anything less than a 6k discount

I bought my 40th AE last Friday for $6300 off of sticker.

I had to choose between the RX-8 and the MazdaSpeed3. Driving both cars back to back convinced me that the RX was the better choice for me. It's cliche to say "driving is believing", but the more I drive the RX-8 the more fall in love with it.

The MS3 is an amazing econo-box with a wicked motor stuffed under the hood. If you like to go fast in a straight line and want to be shoved back into your seat, it is the better choice.

The RX-8 offers the sublimely smooth power delivery of a rotary engine. Speed sneaks up on you as you wind it up to 9K rpm. You really need to watch the speedo, because you can easily find yourself doing 80+ while thinking you are only doing 40. The exhaust note is wildly exotic even in stock form. The handling is almost as telepathic as an MX-5 Miata. I can carry so much speed into any given corner that I can never get the stupid grin off of my face.

The Metro Gray exterior is absolutely stunning in person. Pictures can never do it justice. The Cosmo Red interior is just as amazing and really compliments the car. Everything about the car screams "Luxury Sports Car", and the 40th AE comes loaded. In addition it has some suspension upgrades (foam filled front cross member for example) that can only be found in the new 2009 R3.

Yeah, the other day weaving a bit out of a traffic Jam, I finally found myself in the left lane, driving faster then everyone else on the road like usual, and I look down and I was doing 94.... I thought I might have gotten up to 80... btu I should have known better I was shifting from 4th to 5th with not much room to spare...

Hi Guys,

Thought this thread might be a good place for me to post a question..

I've also just recently bought a new '08 AT (ya..it's an AT...my wife isn't comfortable with a stick). I didn't quite like the looks of the FL so I thought I have gotten a good deal from the dealer....until I saw this thread of course. I only managed to knock around 3k off the sticker....that sucks...

Anyway, since my dealer was clearing the last of his '08 as he's bringing in the FLs, i believe the car had been sitting in the showroom for the last 2-3 months. My question is, what should I do first when i collect the car? Do I need to bring it for a check? I am concerned that the car has been sitting still and not moved in the past few months. Would there be any issues with the engine etc etc??

Btw, My 8 is a GG. Got to say it's not my first choice colour (would have prefered BB) but i must say it's growing on me....

Hey man, I hope you're not going to Mountain Home, ID (that's where I am stationed now, but luckily I'm going to Elmo soon! yay!)

I bought my husband a 2004 rx8 last year. He loves it. I actually am NOT a car person, myself. I'm more of a Jeep, SUV, truck, 4x4, etc type chic....but since I've been driving his car I have fully enjoyed myself! I'm getting scissor slide lambo doors, cold air intake and exhaust put into it soon.

I highly recomend this car

thekrieger 07-16-2008 10:43 PM

I have a 40th anniversary the colors look awesome I totally recommend it...i got mine for 28k:rofl:

Kulas 07-16-2008 11:20 PM

I'm definitely going to test drive it and many other cars they have on the lot. I don't want to look too excited at this one car or they'll never knock off anything because they will know I want it :)

I'm headed to Shaw AFB, Sumter, SC!

Thanx again all for the comments!!! I'll definitely update with how much I was able to get off the sticker...like I said, the dealer said this car has been sitting there for a long time (I'm not sure how long the AE has even been around, March?) and many people have tried it, but none have purchased.

Hopefully its still there on August 2nd.

Chris

If it's been sitting in the showroom, they'll have been keeping it nicely shined and out of the weather. Just take a careful look for stains, whatever, that might have been caused by customers getting in and out of it.

They'll do a Pre Delivery Inspection, which will take care of any sitting-still issues. If you're curious, I believe the PDI checklist can be found somewhere on this site, or maybe among the service bulletins.

GG is an excellent color.

Ken
