Smile Rx-8 for 06 WRX

Picked up my steel grey WRX with spoiler and turbo boost gauge this afternoon. I got to admit it was nice to have the dealership want to do the mods instead of strongly advise me against such things. This has been a great and informative forum and will be trolling around in the future for sure. I've been mostly looking at wrxtuners.com for info, if anyone has any better sites (Ike) clue me in.
Thanks all

Congrats, bet its fun as hell to drive. Hell, just tone down that big *** wing a little bit and it would look pretty nice too. Have fun with it!

I would assume it comes with the WRX spoiler, which is pretty tame compared to the STi's.

Something like this

Defibately NOT jealous--but congrats on your purchase. Not a WRX fan but they are cool cars--especially that color.

Yup thats my car but I have a diffrent model with body colored mirrors and small ground effects with fog lamps. That also looks like the crystal grey, my steel grey is just a little darker/deeper grey if that makes sense. I can't wait to put the SPT exhaust on and uncork some serious hp, I want to keep everything on it SPT/STI parts to stay in warrenty guidelines and they seem quality. Anyhow it's power is a ton of fun and I love the boxer sound.......my 8 will be missed thats for sure, sexy looks, rotary, great brakes/handling just to name a few. I still have it for a few weeks but she's not registered so it sits till I give it back to Mazda after the full 24mnths. Car never gave me one issue after 25k, just some rattles very minor really, given the great performance it delivered for everyone of those miles

Right now i have a choice of either getting an rx8 or a wrx. I turned the wrx down becuase of the terrible looks and the fact that handling is more important to me than outright speed. I'm still not 100% sure I want the rx8 over the wrx so maybe you can help me out. Your thoughts on the two?

oh and btw.. after being in the subie community for a while I'll give you this advice on upgrades:

The brakes are fine.. the 06 wrx gets truely kickass brakes opposed to all the other years. If you do suspension DO NOT just do springs. Dont get the spt or sti stuff. You wont feel hardly a thing. DO get cobb stuff. First get thier access port which lets you reflash your ecu with their maps and pull codes. Then you can go along their upgrade path. With just their accessport and stage 2 exhuast (turbo back) You'll have 340ft lbs at the crank! The 06 wrx is closer to the sti than any other has been before so take advantage of the 2.5

edit: oh yea... be careful at nasioc they're a brutal bunch I strongly recomend against an intake or bov and if you do get one for gods sake do not tell that forum.

Yes but there's a reason the rx8 is in a completely different class higher up as far as scca is concerned.

Dont forget yours has way better seats, STi sideskirts, better center console, and wrx floormats (**** yea!) as opposed to that TR.

Nice car with great performance but it looks like a pig and the interior screams low rent. To boy racer for me.

My problem exactly... also my 4th post ***** in this thread. Sort of watching it like a hawk, really anxious to hear what he has to say.

Probably the best website I have found for the WRX is www.wrxforum.com, it is Cobb's website and has some of the most knowledgeable and friendly people. You might want to research your options for upgrading a 2006 WRX, Cobb's packages are great (I have Stage 2), but for the 2006 I would suggest looking into a new turbo, the cars come pretty maxed out now. Someone suggested not getting just springs, I have Prodrive Springs (linear springs designed for factory struts) and I love them. The WRX is a great car enjoy it.

One warning about the 06 WRX. They are still using the TD04 from the 02-05 WRXs which is pretty small. It comes about maxed out from the factory so you aren't going to gain much more peak hp. The Cobb AP with Turbo Back Exhaust can give a better torque curve but it still drops off in the top end.

If you are planning on waiting until the warranty is up, then stick to the SPT stuff but don't expect much hp gains if any. It'll make it sound better though.

<---has a 98 RS and a 04 WRX.

Yeah, I meant the STI. Guess I just assumed thats what he got when I posted. Anywho, can you get that spoiler on the STI because that car there doesn't look half bad!

If your asking what I think you're asking then yes. A LOT of the STi guys hate the wing and will gladly swap you trunks.

Was just wondering incase sometime in the distant future I consider making it my next car. Would have never considered it but with that smaller wing it looks pretty nice. (Not as good as the 8, but pretty nice)

First mod I would suggest are tires, the Bridgestones that come on the WRX are god awful, even compared to other all seasons. When you do the exhaust I'd do a rear sway as well, those two handling mods make it feel almost like another car and really takes handling to another level. Springs I wouldn't do unless you don't mind wearing out your stock struts faster. If you want to upgrade suspension without going full blown coilovers KYB AGX struts with STI pinks is a nice combo.

I always liked ClubWRX best as far as WRX sites go. Nasioc has a wealth of knowledge but I mainly used it for searching for info and for the regional forums. I-Club is another one you can check out.

Lastly, Oontz is right and wrong about not gaining peak HP with mods, TBE and tune will still net in the area of 20whp at the peak, with just a tune you're mainly going to gain power and torque down low but peak will remain the same.

Enjoy the new car and feel free to give me a shout if you ever have any questions.

Err, no. I love the 8 and love driving it. I think its positives far outweigh the negatives. If I ever switched I would still keep a very high opinion of the 8, and probably miss it.

Actually got back from a drive to Wal-Mart. Somethin about drivin her around makes me forget all about considering buying anything else!

I don't know if Subaru could find a worse tire if they tried. The strange thing is I think a lot of cars besides Subarus have them OEM.
