Royal purple fluids.
 

Those who do use them, do you use them in your transmission or your Engine? Or both? What is the hype about this fluid?

THey are just full synthetic, better than most fluids you buy off the shelf. I think it is worth it. Also believe it or not, diff fluid should be changed more often than recommended. My diff fluid looked worse than my engine oil after 15000 hard miles.

RP makes good quality stuff.

I use nothing but RP , both engine, tranny and rear diff. except for yesterday cuz local pepboys went out of 5w30 , so I picked up some Mobil1 extended performance crap which I regret so much now ......

Cost about the same as most of the *big boys* out there.

I'm considering going all RP fluids in the GTO next oil change. Using Mobil 1 now,only cuz that's what the service dept. uses.

I have not had my diff fluid changed yet and im at 32k. I should proably get that changed. BTW what weight do you all use when you buy the oil from RP?

I bought but have yet to put in RP Maxgear Transmission fluid.

Last week , 6.99 a quart + tax, sold out at my closest pepboys(3 miles) and I was too lazy to drive 15 miles just for oil. picked up some mobil1 extended performance, still regreting now ... dont worry, I'll change it again in about 1 K miles :)

If you're not in a hurry, I suggest you get like a 5-gallon gail from places like rpmoil.com . Im goign to order one for my family (2 cars + 1 mini van) . 5w30 should do.

that should last me at least a year of oil change (if I dump 4-5 quarts at a time)

change it asap. you can reuse the plugs but remember to *CLEAN THEM*. Just use some towel or tissues to wipe it clean, take it out and you'll know what I mean.

but for the gasket, just buy some new one and change it, only about a buck each (better than leaking and the risk of killing ur tranny and rear diff)

tranny use 75w90

For Rear diff, u can use either 75w90, or 75w140. the 75w140 will rob about 1-2% of your power, but it gives you ALOT MORE protection.

Me? oh I still use 75w90, I think Im ok with my rear diff. I trust its quality, and I change my stuff every 15K miles so I think I'll be fine.

That's actually not bad, my rear diff came out much worse than the tranny. I changed them at this time last year.

Well, some of the dirt on the plugs were accidently *wipe off* when I took it out of the rear diff and tranny. so there should be alot more. but oh well I flush the crap out anyway :)

How hard is it to do all that service to your car? I know the dealer wants an arm and a leg to perform the work.

Search--there are threads with pictures on how to do it. Or you can have a mechanic do it. I think it'll be $50-100 for someone other than the dealer to do it.

Its easy to change the Rear Diff oil.

Tranny is another story, which is a bitch to work at, maybe Im too fat or something I dont know.

all you need is a hand pump that you can get at local auto parts store for like 5 bucks. oh get one with an at LEAST 2-3 feet long tube. You'll thank me for that.

And you need about an hour or 2, of course.

I use RP for the transmission, tried Amsoil 75W90 and it sucked. Tried RP and it's very smooth like stock. Use M1 75W90 for the diff and Castrol 5W20 conventional for the motor.

Trans and diff @ a 1000 miles.

I had Royal Purple in my trans and diff, but recently changed my clutch and didn't have access to any Royal Purple. Went with the Amsoil equivalent. Started having some significant gear grinding issues which I didn't attribute to the new Amsoil. I blead the clutch system a couple times, even replaced the fluid with Motul Dot4, but the problem kept returning. Even thought about replacing my slave and master cylinders, thinking the failure was related to those components. Got an idea from a friend to switch out the Amsoil, and put Royal Purple back in. Did the swap last night...and no more gear grinding issues.

I will stick with Royal Purple.

I use all their fluids /oil and tranny and wouldn't use anything else.

I changed to Mobil1 extended performance @ my last oil change cuz Pepboys's RP all sold out ... well 5w30 sold out ...

but I just top it off 2 days ago with RP again ....

Damn maybe just my *feel*, I think that whenever I add RP the engine runs smoother.

Im waiting for my 5 gallon pail to come so I can do another oil change .....

I just changed the oil in my tranny and Diff after 51,000 miles. I can tell you 51K is definitely too long to leave the tranny oil in. It had a nice metally sheen when drained, and the transmission had become so notchy to engage that I had to pull it out of first hard when it was cold, and use two hands to engage reverse.

The Royal Purple has made it shift like new. It is slick, easy amd gentle to engage and grinds into no gears even when cold. It also seems to make the drivetrain feel freer and faster. It is a good change to make.

I went with 75W90 Maxgear in both the trans and the Diff. Works great!

I just changed to RP 5w30 on my other car. The car drives no different except the oil pressure is 5-10psi lower. Now I am worried.

ya, I just changed too all Royal purple, and within the week I found out my 2nd gear would grind if I downshifting into 2nd above 4K... Other than that I could feel the difference, but transmission breaking is just a reason to buy that ACT flywheel/clutch combo... Any ideas on cost...?

I'll have the underdrive pulley done within the week so by next month it'll be all above fast revving...

changed to RP when my 8 hit 3000 miles and can say it elimanated that notchy shifting in the tranny. the rearend was also changed. I was wondering about the use of Redline products as an alternative though......

underdrive pulley can be a great way to starve your car of water due to t he waterpump not spinning at the right speed. At 9000RPM, you have to b e extra careful. Mods are not always good.
