Rough Idle after BHR ingnition coils and AEM CAI
So I turned on the car after the completion of both installations and started off nicely. Let it warm up until normal operating temperature (about 10 mins), revved it a little bit as in 3-4k rmp and idle drops as if its going to stall. Another 10 mins later no more problem with low revs but idle still fluctuates. About 30 mins later i rev the car 6-8k and the idle drops again, this time the idle became really rough. Rev again, and car is on the brink of dying but catches itself but repeats. I give it a little gas to 1k to help the engine and idle becomes slightly better. What's wrong?
I don't think its from the intake although I have no clue what to do with the vacuum lines as the aem manual doesn't say anything. I just left the vacuum lines alone for now, i figured I'd ask here. So, what do I do with the vacuum lines that previously connected to the stock airbox? Now I think it has something to do with the installation of the coils or the coils itself. I was going to check it out but it got dark and I'll have to take the intake off again and it was already 10pm. Sorry if this sounds stupid or have been answered before, please direct me to the proper thread or assist me with my problem kindly. Noob alert :wallbash: |
it could be that you didn't install correctly the screens in the cai! that happened to lots of people before
|
it needs capped off

Page 5 in the AEM Installation guide instructs you to remove the vacuum line and cap the "manifold inlet" (or what we call the VFAD nipple).

You should have been supplied with a vacuum cap. Attachment 172812 If not, Autozone sells a variety pack of vacuum caps for a few dollars. |
/\ a cap

Thank you Jon316 and I apologize to BHR and sir Charles for my stupidity :bash:

Same thing happened to me. Im 99 % sure its your CAI. What happened to me was one of the screens go sucked up and dislodge by the throttle boddy. Take the intake apart and see if thats the problem. But its crazy how something little as the screen being moved can mess with your idle. Mine didnt even reach the throttle body .. just got turned sideways a bit.
And i dont think the vacuum line needs to be capped off cause after my cai install i drove the car without it being capped off for a few days. No problems. Although its probably better you do capp it off. |

Just cuz the coils are black does mean they are to blame. :lol2:
Sorry, comes from being raised by Leonard Washington. |

Why does it have to be a BLACK coil? Why can't it just be a coil? Why do you always have to go racial?

VFAD capped off and same thing. By the way, I just noticed CEL is now on. I'm about to just take everything apart and reinstall everything again later today. I don't see anything wrong with the way I did the coils either :cussing:

Also maybe reset the ecu not too sure if this makes a difference

I am sure she has figured it out over the past few years since the last post.

i hate to point out the obvious - but sometimes after a project like this you forget the small things - what you are describing with cel and rough idle - did you plug the maf sensor back in? don't ask me how i know....
