And guys you would be surprised to see how many of the "regular" folks actually know only this: that the rotary engine has a very limited life-span of about 80-100K miles.

Most of you that talk to "regular" folks (i.e. people who regard automobiles as washing machines with wheels) should already know this. Rotary knowledge is very restricted, and the fact that only one manufacturer and only one car have this engine doesn't help at all.....

Oh, and I have a couple of 'slightly used' 1980 RX-7s I am playing with and they have 100,000 miles minimum before engine failure. I think one has more than 200,000.

I would expect the Renensis to meet or beat those numbers.

:icon_tdow Myth. It'll last well over 100k if you treat it right. But if you put an after-market turbo on it, all bets are off.

The FD rx7 had problems with dying engines because of the lack of cooling and the high temperatures of the sequential turbos. As you know (or atleast should know) the rx8 is NA and it doesnt heat up as much and the overheat problems have been solved mostly with the increase airflow and such but also the fact there's no turbo's generating god like heat. From what i've read on rx7club the FC NA can last into the 100k miles easy with proper maintance and such. keep your rx8 stock and you'll be fine. Get the rx8 cuz it handles great, feels great to drive and overall a fun car. Get a FD if you wanna spend thousands and thousands in rebuilding the motor and turbo's and such. I have 29k miles on 04 (which was bought in 05 my rx8) and its had no problems except a 17 year old girl running into the side of my car and me getting jacked and getting the fault put on me. Just the recall on the tank and such and thats it.

My un turbocharged '89 GXL was well above 200k (the odometer went out before the engine did!) when it finally bit the dust. And that was with little or no maintanence and long periods of sitting (I was in school and broke).

I think that long periods of sitting broke it.
A rotary doesnt want to stand its not good for the springs as they stay compressed in one position.
A rotary must do what it says - it must turn.

I also had a series 2 RX7 12A NA standard but had long standing when I bought it and over 100K miles, I replaced oil and filter and it still went strong.

I think with regular oil changes and checking the heat, the RX8 will do 200k Miles.

Mine now has 60000miles on and I think its only run in now, still starts very very quick, no problems

with rotaries that stood for long the guys here first drained all oil, then put in some diesel as oil to loosen the carbon / seals etc. (only start and run for short while,about a minute, - NO REVVING !)
Then drain all again.

replace the all filters and oil, then start again, drive normal and then drive with high revs to get carbon and so off and out,after few hundred miles for last time change oil filter and oil again and then you are ok. check temperatures !

Thanks to the nazis we call Mazda, Hitler's vision is alive and well today, still shrouded in mystery, and still wreaking havoc on the poor, foolish American motorists who buy rx vehicles.

My '89 Rx-7 was running fine at 250K when I sold it.

My odometer's been counting down from 80k miles since I bought the car new. I thought it was a malfunction, but I like your theory better.
