I remember seeing that a couple of years ago. The episode was just on "engines".

supergoat 05-23-2006 02:38 PM

Neat!

apotocki 05-23-2006 03:39 PM

Hey - He said 255hp!!!!!! lol.

Good video.

tjbourgoyne 05-23-2006 05:08 PM

255 - that would have cut the posts on this site in half. I need that reverse hood!

fray 05-23-2006 05:23 PM

Ha.. if we had 255 HP, everyone would be bitching that we don't have 275.. if we had 275, people would want 300...

:)

I hadn't seen that episode of Modern Marvels before. It was actually pretty cool. Thanks for the link!

I'll give you guys something to think about. The stock 3rd gen RX-7 was rated at 255 hp at the crank. It dyno'd between 215-220 at the wheels. Stock unported Renesis engines (minus the cat) retuned with the Interceptor have hit 210 rwhp so far with possibly a little bit more to go. 255 hp suddenly isn't that unbelievable.

Anyone else have problems loading that video? I can only get it to play 1:18 out of 2:54. I've tried three times and it stops at 1:18.

Nice lil history on my baby's engine. I embedded the video on my myspace profile so the rest of my friends can grumble and be informed as to why I whoop their lil civic's ass haha.

Glad to see some models of the engine other then animations on howstuffworks and the mazda site. I'd like to see/hear more about this engine with visuals!

tjbourgoyne 05-23-2006 09:31 PM

There are many designs for rotory engines but after 80+ yrs Mazda is the only one comitted to perfecting it. That takes balls IMO.
