rotary engine tips
 

i just purchased my new rx-8 (05 white) on friday and im new to the whole rotary engine. the dealer informed me about not shutting the engine down cold, and the hazard of just a short trip on the engine life... anything else i should know to help preserve my engine's life???

oil change every 3,000 miles.
UNDER 4,000 RPM when engine cold then get
OVER 8,500 RPM at least once a day :)

First of all, welcome!
I agree with expo plus these:
Let the engine come to full operating temp (about halfway on the gauge) before shutting down.
Check the oil about every other tank (I check mine every tank).
DO NOT trust your OE tires in any temps under about 40 F or in the snow. Any snow. At all. Ever. Really.
There is great debate as to whether or not to use synthetic or dino oil. I think it is up to you. Personally I use high quality dino.

^^^Welcome to the club, Mickey. That's great advice above, and I'm not going to add to it. I'm glad to hear you so enthusuastic about your new Baby. I still fell the same about mine, 2 years and 60,000 miles later.

Just to add few comments, rev the engine when it is warm, you can't hurt it by driving it hard, it likes it more than being babied. You may be able to get away with using 87 or 89 octane instead of premium to reduce some of the carbon, depends on if your particular car likes the fuel or not, and it is always your choice too. Enjoy.

Do the protechtion mods. It will help you bond with your 8.

Change the oil on a regular basis (this is the key to longevity) I do mine every 3k
Read a lot in this Forum. Especially the Tech Garage. If you don't already, you will quickly know more about the car then you dealer.
The stock tires are Summer Tires :) ... not for snow.
If yours came with potenezas (vs the other oem tire Dunlop) be aware they are not the best in rain and when it's cold they can slip (do a search there's lots of info here)
