Are the rotary accents in the headrests comfortable/safe?
 

The rotary accents in the headrests look a bit uncomfortable to rest your head against, and I'm wondering what happens if you get hit from behind and your head whacks into the headrest?

Does your head touch against the hard looking rotary accent, or is this a non issue?

Non-issue to me. I've put my head back several times and never touched it. I think my head goes above the accent. Maybe I need to pay more attention next time? :)

Hasn't been a problem for me. Was for my wife though. When she was in the passenger seat, my daughter in the back stuck her finger through the hole and poked my wife's head. She reacted badly and almost threw herself through the windshield. Good thing she had her seat belt on.

but it hasn't affected me

However if my 8 gets hit the last thing I'll be worried about is the rotor seat hurting me

You won't sustain any injury from them - they're lightweight plastic and they're mounted to the fabric of the seat rather than the frame. They may not be particularly comfortable for people of just the "wrong" height, but they're certainly not dangerous.

Has not been a problem for me, but my brother did make a comment......FYI, it is plastic, not metal.

Could you imagine metal on a hot day? We would all have rotery shaped brands on the back of our heads!

What a sec.......Is that bad? hmmmmmmmmmm.

You'd have to be really short for them to bother you- so some kids may not like them very much. I'm 5'0, and my head doesn't hit them when I'm driving.

LOL -- my 7 year old son likes to pull my wife's hair through the hole in the seat.

No issue with the rotor accent -- you would have to be very short for your head to touch it -- probably short enough that you should be sitting in the front seat -- since we can't turn off the passenger airbag (my one dissappointment with the 8 so far).

I recently dated a girl who was about 5'1". The rotor did sit right at her head level. So it was a bit uncomfortable for her. The option was to adjust the back of the seat a little, but then she didn't like the seating position. Must be why we broke up. J/K :) If the seat's laying down, it's also uncomfortable, but how often do you sleep in your car? :)

I had some concern too, initially, but as it turns out, as others have said, they are a none-issue. I suppose if you had a really short torso, maybe under 4'6" they might be bothersome. But the fact for me is that the headrest doesn't contact my head unless I lean waaay back inn the seat. It mibe nice if someone sold a little cushion that fit into the hole (hear me aftermarket), so that when travelling, my wife won't use her crummy little pillow (one that she got for use in my Miata) to cushion her head when she sleeps. But seriously, I don't think it would be a problem for 99% of the world. Remember too, that Mazda designed the interior for the average US male, not the smaller Asian template.

For anyone where this is really a burning issue, just cover the seat with neoprene seat covers (such as those from Wolf or Wet Okole). They don't bother me either.

The seat accents don't bother my wife or I and I can't imagine them being dangerous in an accident. I hope anyway, I don't want to end being the guy killed by his rotor decoration. The only trouble I see is if I ever decide to supercharge and really modify the car after the warranty is up I would have to change seats to go to racing harnesses. The 7's seats are great because the hole in the headrest area is perfect for my harnesses to come through.

there was one time I had a girl in my car, her head was right at the rotory aceent. she complanit it was too hard and un confortible. I should have throw her ass out the sunroof. the way she seat would piss me off too,she had her assfacing the door and one leg on the seat, totally not respecting the bucket seat.
