BAD GUY: Kendall Mazda :Rotary Accent stolen while at dealer

So I drop my car off to get some minor repair work done, Pick up the car and garage it till I get back from vacation.

Get back and after some noises that weren't there before, take it back to the dealer. Picked it up (Friday) and garaged it till this morning (Saturday).

My rear rotary accent is GONE

Call up the dealer and his reply was that "How do you know it was stolen at the dealer and not on the street". After being as calm as I could be (I wanted to rip him a new one) I told him I wanted it replaced. His response was "I'll look into it". GRRRrrrrr

How easy is it to steal the rotary accents??? Should I super glue the new one if and when they ever replace it?

HiTMaNN 06-05-2004 05:04 PM

hahha its double stick tape its real easy! what a dick of a mazda dealership it costs them nothing to get you a new one just tear him a new one im never scared too!

The Overman 06-06-2004 02:03 AM

I was thinking about getting one, now I'm scared. Those are 60 bucks for each... Easy money for some...
Is there a way to make sure they won't go off after installed? No screws? What about crazy glue? (Aluminum... hummm. Not sure it works...)

You canalways paint the accents like I did.

AlexCisneros 06-08-2004 01:20 PM

ARRRG! The Ass they had called me swears that he saw the rotary symbols on the car when the car left here. The best he could do is give me "special insider pricing" on the accent.

$75 plus tax!

How "special"

Funny thing is I have an insider there that has been giving me internal information.

I had to fight to lower the cost of my repair work as it is. According to this person the dealership is in financial trouble and Mazda corporate is not letting them buy anything without paying COD (including cars). As it is they are ADDING HOURS to work in order to keep what few mechanics are left happy.

This has now become a bad guy thread.

Mazda of Kendall on S. Dixie Hwy in Miami, in my opinion, should be avoided at all costs.

Mods please move this thread to the SE forum.

Also, I don't think a normal person off the street would know that the accents come off so easily. It would have to be someone who knew that they are stuck on.

Maybe they're trying to sell you the one they stole. Now that would be the boondoggle to end all boondoggles.

Good luck.

yeah they are real easy to steal...pretty pathetic somebody would do that though, its not like its gonna make you broke to get it done. I guess some pathetic 8 owner felt it was neccesary not to pay for it when he can just get it off someone else's RX-8! What a dumsh!t

AlexCisneros 06-08-2004 03:58 PM

I can bet you there is a mechanic in there that will try to sell it to someone without it.

Really pisses me off though that they lied and said they saw it on the car. $60 or even $70 is no big deal to me, it's definitely no big deal to them. It's just the principle of it.

In my opinion this dealer and the scum they have working there should all be put away.

I hope Mazda yanks the rights out from under them.

Devil's advocate: Is it possible that your accent fell off while you were driving?

AlexCisneros 06-08-2004 04:26 PM

Is it possible? Sure, it's also possible that a UFO came down, teleported the rotary accent off because on their planet shiny rotary shaped things are highly valued and then flew off again.

Anything is possible, but is it probable?

Have any of the 10,602 members of this forum had problems with their accents falling off while simply driving? ;)

mysql101 06-08-2004 04:28 PM

I understand. I was just pointing out that there are other possibilities. If you had checked for accents before giving the keys up, and noticed the accents were gone when they gave you back the keys, there would be no question.

Truss 06-08-2004 04:33 PM

If you get it replaced, I wouldn't have it done at the same dealership. At a minimum you don't trust them with your car, and there's no reason to give them add'l profit.

check ebay, maybe someone is selling yours on ebay. just a thought. even if they sale it for $5.00 since they stole them its all profit!!

You can probaly buy it back on ebay today!

Seriously though, sorry to hear your misfortune. I have not put them on mine yet but when I do you may want to try a better adhesive than 2sided tape. You could use a quick set epoxy which is incredibly strong. Or try 5200 by 3m. Its designed to keep things waterproof below the waterline on boats. It has a 1ton per square inch adhesion! Let them try to get it off then. You can find it in any marine store or even home depot. Good luck.

I know, I was just being a smartass ;)

It's unfortunate that you would need to take pictures of the car prior to leaving them with the keys, but since in this day and age the buck never stops with anyone it is a sad truth. Had I done that, then thought to myself:

"The dealer may have stolen a silly little $60 thing off my car, better look at it and check" then had the photographic proof maybe I'd be getting it replaced.

It's sad to think anyone would need to go to those extremes though.
Like you said (and like I said) there are endless possibilities to why it could be missing, but the probabilities diminish.

The most probable would be that the dealership was were it "dissapeared". Any other dealership would have come to a similar probability and decided it would be better to lose $60 and keep a client happy, even while denying fault, than to lose the client.

Marketing classes in college taught me that for every one person you make happy they tell 5 people and for every one you make angry they tell 10.

How many views does this thread have?

@ picos

I took delivery of the car with them installed. Had I known it was double sided tape, I would have removed them, used epoxy, and fastened them down with small screws. The front one will be getting "tweaked" soon.

picosrx8 06-08-2004 04:59 PM

I wouldnt of guessed that was Mazda's method of adhesion either.

Green Thunder18 06-08-2004 07:32 PM

Special Price, $75!? The set costs $139 - that's only 69.50 each at consumer price. What a rip! Sorry to hear you are dealing with such scum. Even if they didn't steal it they should try and help you, and charging you even more for them is not exactly helping.
I have thought about the chance of mine getting stolen - just hoping this doesn't become a trend. :( It's so hard to have anything nice these days.
