Roll fender shop
please help me here... I am rubbing quite bad now and I can't seem to find a reliable body shop that can roll my car safely. I asked one bodyshop and he asked for over a $1000. That's ridiculous..
do you guys know any bodyshop or performance shop in the Bloomington, Indiana or Indianapolis,Indiana area that are able to roll my fender? Thank you so much |
this probably would have been better off in the Regional subforum
1k is ridiculous, he probably misunderstood what you wanted done. |
1k HOLY SH!T :icon_no2:
|
He posted it in his regional forum
I seen it |

1k, thats the biggest joke i've ever heard. Does he charge $800 for an oil change too?
|
You could just put a refundable deposit down and do it yourself (google)...
Or better yet talk to guys in your regional forum and see if anyone has a rolling tool you can barrow. |
yeah... I asked him if he was serious and he said yes.. lol
I guess I have to rent one and do it myself. the problem is that I am afraid that I might chip the paint that's why I am looking for body shop to do it. anyway, I did post in the regional forum but I thought I post here too, because I thought more people might look at this here. Thanks so much |
you probably want to try a wheel shop instead of a bodyshop.
|
i tried calling a couple of wheel/tires shop.. they also don't have the tools to do it. lol
|
well sometimes your own job turns out better then the shops job... do it yourself and save 1k to do touch ups if you screw up somewhere. =/
|
cheaper to buy the tool,

ya, buy the tool and see if you could roll the fenders without cracking the paint.
|
Im sure lots of people do it themselfs.
|
yeah, I guess, I have to find a way to do it myself.
Thanks guys |
I've done it 2 ways. With the roller tool and the other with a rubber mallet. Both require the use of a heat gun. The roller tool does give it a smoother feel, but the rubber mallet method works just as nice.
Here's a video with my car using the roller tool with commentary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_irPKDRxufc |
We do it with a childs tee-ball bat locally. *shrug* I don't know where you're at but if you want to come out to Cleveland I can get you a couple guys to do it in about 10 minutes for about $10 and some brew.

guys, I rolled my fender.
I don't rub on the fenders anymore, but now, I am rubbing with the plastic/metal that is holding rear bumper to the body. is there anyway I can cut the plastic away or bend the metal? |
cut it with a dremel
|
Do Not Cut! Trust me, I've been there. You can try and shave part of the inner liner off, but I highly advise you not to cut at that point. Look carefully and you'll see weld points.
This was my rear tire setup. 275/35/18 on 18x9.5 +35 wheels. http://www.altspace.com/rx8/rimtest1.jpg |
it seems that if just shave or cut the plastic off, my tires would still rub with the metal part... now Im confuse of what I should do with the metal part..
|
Hmmmmm
What is your set up? Tire size/ rim size and offset |
my rear setup is 20x9.5 +45 275/30/20
I am trying to shave the plastic off tomorrow.. I hope it will not rub anymore |

Another guy on 20's....
The only thing that I see that could have been different would be going with a 265/30/20 Wheels that are 9.5 wide with fit perfect with a 265. 275 can work thou but I would have went with a 265 |
