Replacing engine....AGAIN

SO if you remember, 2 months ago they ordered a new engine for my 8. It was installed and given back to me a month ago this week. Well...I took it in today for a "knocking" noise, coolant burning smell and the cooling fan on a lot. They said to call back this afternoon for an update on what they find. I call back just now and was told they have ordered me another engine. I am REALLY hoping this is in and installed in time for the Texas8...if not I am going to be pissed!!! Had the first motor for 2 months after I bought it and it went out, had this motor a month and it went out...lets hope the third time is a charm!

CompMan 03-15-2011 03:40 PM

This makes me scared. I just had a new motor put in my car.

Not from the dealership though, so hopefully it is built a little better

WTBRotary! 03-15-2011 03:52 PM

Yeah.... I have my fair share of the same Story Highspeed... Try <<< 3 new engines... lol

kd92103 03-15-2011 03:54 PM

I had 8000 miles on my 2009 RX8 and just had the engine, transmission, water pump, coils and clutch plate replace in mine. They tried to give me a "rebuilt" engine until I threw a fit and they manage to find brand new everything. The dealership tried to tell me this never happens. WHAT EVER. I have had 10 Mazda's and this is my last.

WTBRotary! 03-15-2011 03:57 PM

^^^ Dont hate Mazda for that... Every Car manufacturer has defects and problems... yours seem very crazy though... Possible lemon?

You had the engine in an 09 replaced? This would be the first I hear of and I highly doubt they could or would offer to give you a reman since the series II engine uses different housings, OMP system, PCM, etc., etc. Your engine would have to be replaced with a new engine regardless.

I have to raise the BS flag on you.

:bsflag:

Did you abuse the car or something? Man, that is unbelievable.

You owned 10 Mazda's before, and this is the last time you will own one again. Sorry to hear that, but anyway... good luck on your next choice.

You can raise any flag you want, but I know what I had to go through here in San Diego. I had to fight hard to get my new engine. The dealership I dealt with said the warranty ONLY covers RM engines..but after my kicking and screaming, they somehow found a brand new engine. So, again, raise any flag you want, but I know what I have been through with this car.

Speed_8 03-16-2011 11:43 AM

whats that smell ?? Lol

..now now....maybe the dealership was giving him some BS :dunno: There's one near me that wouldn't hesitate to give me the same BS if I didn't know any better.

hocknscary87 03-16-2011 06:51 PM

so every now and then mine smells kind of funny like when it rains and it constantly has that frothy looking stuff on the dipstick, should i be worried? i never thought anything of the smell cuz my buddies g37 smelled the same last time i got out of it so i figure its just the cat. it runs fine and no noise, just figured i'd ask while i'm dealing with the problem of having to replace the roof and paint half of it

If you don't mind me asking; what was wrong with your engine, transmission, water pump, coils, and clutch plate at 8000 miles? What were the failure symptoms?

Paul.

I have a feeling we will either not get an answer, or will get an answer that does not make much sense... kind of like kd's original post.

My trans was rebuilt at 12K along with the clutch replaced. Dealer said the clutch was blue and burnt. First engine was replaced a month later at 13K. I've had a total of 3 bad engines. First 2 two were new ones from Japan. The third was from a Mazda authorized rebuilder. The present engine is from the Mazda reman shop and is running great.
While I have a series I car, I won't be too quick to call BS on this one.

Yeah after talking to him in PM I don't think he is BS'ing but just that what he is being told is not 100% accurate.

Letter direct from Mazda Corp:

"This letter is to confirm that your 2009 Mazda RX8 required replacement of the engine, due to a miss from the #1 rotor. If an engine replacement is necessary for the Mazda RX8, the dealership will remove the engine from the car and ship it to our re manufacturing facility located in Virginia. This facility disassembles the engine and reassembles them with new rotor housings, seals, gaskets and any other parts needed to maintain high quality and longevity to OEM specifications. The 2009 Mazda RX8 engine received substantial internal upgrands, and this engine is not compatible with 2004-2008 RX8 engines. Because of this, there are no remanufactured engines in stock for this car. Mazda of Japan has supplied the remanufacturing facility with "seed stock" engines. These engines are brand new engines from the assembly plant in Japan. Our remanufacturing facility installs a remanufactured tag on the engine, but the engine you received for your is brand new.
I apologize for the delay, and the repairs required on your car so early in your ownership. I sincerely hope that this new engine will provide many trouble free miles in the future. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact John Hine Mazda, or myself.
Regards,
Paul Woolley
Technichal Operations Manager"

SO - I did NOTHING to cause my engine to fail. For those of you who do not believe me, that is fine, but I know what I have gone through. The odor you smell must be that of something "Splatting" on your face.

spenditonweed 03-17-2011 06:30 PM

i dropped my rx8 on megan springs why is the front higher dow?

PeteInLongBeach 03-18-2011 04:48 AM

So, it appears we have our first report of a series 2 motor failure. Sounds like it is not due to the usual issues ( carbon build-up, worn apex seals, etc.), but due to a mis-fire ? If that's the case, then the root cause might be an ignition malfunction, not a basic engine malfunction. I wonder if the was a CEL or code generated....

CyberPitz 03-18-2011 10:15 AM

I'd have to say at 8000 miles, it was a freak accident. Every car has their "POS" few. He has a new engine, he'll probably be fine. After all, isn't this the first time we've heard of a SII engine dying? We all know the ones with problems are louder than the happy ones!

Ah hah, so I was right. I knew they couldn't be rebuilding 09' engines.

Thanks for the clarification, I guess you got a dud. I retract my BS flag.

pistonhater 03-19-2011 08:10 PM

damn, i've been watching closely for reports of Series II engines dying. Seems like we have a winner here:squint:

Good to know they took care of everything. But man, with such low miles it sucks big time.:icon_no2:
