An interesting, three-part Adobe Flash program from 2003 that describes the history and the principles of the rotary engine and explains the latest RENESIS technology. I believe this program was a dealership exclusive, but my dad managed to obtain a copy back when he bought the car in '03. The program is compatible with all versions of Windows.

To run the program, simply copy the "RENESIS TTP" folder inside the .zip archive, paste it onto your desktop, open the folder, and run the "renesis.exe" file.

I'm pretty intrigued by that "RENESIS PID/DATA TABLES" button. Too bad I don't have a windows box handy.

Ah, yeah I've seen a similar table in the service manual. I'm not sure why I thought they'd get all technical and start listing off the addresses of the PIDs.

Something that caught my eye though.

"TIRESIZE Tire revolution per mile"

Anyone know how they'd actually calculate that? I thought the speedometer was driven off the wheel sensors. But it sounds like they're using a combination of the transmission speed and wheel speed?

The standard formula for calculating revolutions per mile is revolutions=(63360/circumference). The unknown that the computer needs in order to solve for revolutions is circumference, but it is impossible for the computer to derive that measurement and solve for revolutions unless the system calculates the revolutions through another means entirely, such as interfacing with the speed sensor in the transmission like you said. I'm not quite sure as to how the two are interrelated, though.

I suppose if the ECU is programmed to know what the wheel speed should be for a given transmission RPM then it could easily figure out if they're smaller or larger based on the delta between the expected and actual wheel speed. I mostly find it interesting because I've read several posts/threads saying everything is driven off the wheel speed sensors alone.

Yeah...Not sure what I was smoking...oh wait, I think I can figure it out.

Any idea how they'd go about calculating the vehicle speed independent of the wheel speed? Or is it possible that this PID is actually an input of some kind?
