Renesis question

So I'm sitting here reading about the 3 rotor Cosmo engines and these motors being put into FD RX-7's can a 3 rotor be put in a RX-8 other than the GT race cars running in the Rolex series.

What does it take to make a 3 rotor? Obviously you just can't bolt 3 rotors together and call it done. I also have a picture of a 4 rotor that raced in a older Mazda race car.

The 3 rotors were only available in the JC Cosmo in the 90's. Any 3 rotors you see are either from those cars (most of them) or a few are custom made from 13B pieces and some machining. It's not cheap or easy by any means and definitely not as simple as just adding a rotor. There is no 3 rotor Renesis engine. Realistically if you wanted to install a 3 rotor, after all is said and done it will cost you upwards of $25K or so to to. I've seen others claim less but I've never seen proof that anyone actually has done it for less. At least not to a level of quality that I would be comfortable with. After all of this work keep in mind you will never pass emissions ever again so depending on where you live, you'll never make it street legal. Technically it isn't street legal anywhere but some inspection stations and local laws in some states get around that in a few ways. All 4 rotor engines are either custom made by independent people at a high cost or are Mazda factory built race engines. No car was ever sold with a 4 rotor.

3 rotors are rare, expensive pieces of Mazda history. And the 4 rotor (RB26) was only used in Mazda's Le Mans race cars and the such, like the 787B. I don't even want to think how expensive those would be. Plus, fitting in an 8 would be nearly impossible.

Yea kinda what I thought. I should get back to work and quit thinking.
My friend is Autocrossing a 93 RX-7 with an LS6. Way more power way better gas milage and actually lighter. He has to run in X prepared with me in my 914. He has his days but mostly me or my codriver can beat him.
Awesome car however out on the road where I never stand a chance. There was a 3 rotor FD that took 2nd place at Nationals this years. Pretty fast car.

Joe_914, can you please change the title of the thread? It is causing a small sharp pain in my head every time I look at it.

edit : thanks

Hey rotarygod the cars that raced in the rolex series were in fact 3 rotor renesis engines. It was the #69 and #70 car. The team is fully supported by mazda and it was made by mazda.

there are a couple guys on this forum down in puerto rico that are running 3 rotor 20b's. They said it cost them about 15k to make but they did alot of the mods themselves. Last threads I saw from them said they were running one rx8 in the 350hp range and another in the 600hp range.

I know they were. They were custom built race engines that you can't buy. At least not easily or cheaply!
