I thought I would tap into the wealth of knowledge that this forum has to offer.

I've searched and seen a few posts that keeping a rotary engine at a constant RPM is bad for the engine. This would suggest that during my road trip I do not use cruise control for extended periods of time and make sure I move the RPM's around the tach every so often.

Any comments, suggestions or tips?

Actually constant RPM for the engine is one of the heathiest things you can do. Regardless of engine. This is one of those things that is actually true for pistons AND rotaries.

I do road trips all the time, it loves steady rev state.

That being said I love variable rev state more, so... it only gets steady rev state occasionally

The only thing bad about constant revs is if you have a busted midpipe that drones or rasps in your ears at the revs you are sitting at.


Otherwise, enjoy the 24mpg.

I suggest you do what my soon to be wife and I are doing on our honeymoon road trip and break up the highway driving with a few hours of twisties. Deal's gap and Moonshiners 28 in our case.

I'm going to be leaving for work on Sept 15th and taking a round-about route to get there on the 27th. Should only add about 7,365 miles to the commute. Should be able to hit up most of PCH in the process. It's great to vary the long distance driving.

Bring a empty large mouth water bottle so you can pee.

No from what i read and understand constant RPM is not good.

MM can clarify the oil output at cruise.

Just replace that empty water bottle and buy only pure synthic pre-mix oil.

Put in gas tank.

Well....yeah. I wasn't suggesting that long cruises should be done without premix

OMP is load based after all, and constant state is low load.

Constant RPM, on any motor, is always a good thing.
OMP/premix doesn't really matter.

This is why, in part, that rotary motors make good airplane engines.

If you have a working OMP, pre-mix in a steady-state situation (like all highway miles) isn't really necessary.

My route does take me through a lot of twisties, through some mountains. Also, I never premix.
