Red Cars More Likely To Crash!

well, i have some good news....I will be purchasing an 8 at the end of July! but now the hard part is to decide on which color to buy.... :Eyecrazy:
i love the black but its a mongrel to keep clean and scratches away..then i was conidering the red..then a friend told me they are prone to accidents because when the sun is setting, its hard to see coz the horizon becomes the same color as the car so people just drive in front of you! did anyone else know this? next i like the white but in the snow or blizzard its impossible to see..its the same color as the snow...then theres grey, but my mother always told me never to get a car the same color as the road....
so you can see there are many pros and cons. please help me out...not just tell me which you like but some actual usable feedback to help me evaluate. thanks

... silver is cursed. not red. red is hott.

but really... none of these are really taken into account because... unless another person on the road is driving drunk, you will still be seen.

dmorales 05-28-2006 10:54 PM

Don't get silver. IT'S CURSED! You will get totaled, twice, in the same day...and then hailed on! Then Godzilla will come to life and step on it...with each foot!

OMG I just had to step away from the my PC :rollingla

Detrich 05-28-2006 11:41 PM

lightning yellow then or will drivers get confused when they see a yellow traffic light, get temporary blinded, and then not see ur car and drive into u also? <LOL>

FASTNMEAN8 05-28-2006 11:44 PM

come on now, lets be considerate of the silver owners, its been said or "theorized" that the silver is cursed in which many cases, there has been proof, but all in all each color looks hott.... whether you get the Velocity red, Brillant Black, Titanium grey, metallic silver, white pearl, winning blue, nordic green, or lighting yellow.... its an rx-8, its bound to look amazing... I just bought VR because its the color of a sports car:rock:

RazzyBRX-8 05-28-2006 11:46 PM

Winning Blue is where it's at.

Straight up.

NoTears316 05-28-2006 11:56 PM

Red is fastest.

DOMINION 05-29-2006 12:05 AM

But we won ;)

RX8Dragon 05-29-2006 12:54 AM

Fly under the radar while looking good, get the Ti grey.

NgoRX8 05-29-2006 01:02 AM

haha... this is turning into a poll thread about car color.

DOMINION 05-29-2006 01:54 AM

Nahhh just a "My _ _ _ _ is bigger than yours" lol

Raptor2k 05-29-2006 01:57 AM

VRed > *

Yes, even the feminine 'Copper' purplish red.

REMillers 05-29-2006 02:07 AM

Funny you should say red is hard to see since there was talk here that silver is the hardest color to see.

Really though no color is harder to see that it will cause a accident, only stupidity and not paying attention will cause that. No color is more prone.

That being said, silver does have some sorta of curse.

*looks outside*

Nope no godzilla yet.

*stands watch with Mothra*

That's stupid, you can only totaled it once technically speaking

PerSmitt 05-29-2006 07:52 AM

The curse is stemed from jealousy of all the slick yet elegant sunlight silvers out there. All other RX-8 owners are cursing themselves (hence curse) for getting the wrong color.

Has to be one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.

I agree although I often worry when driving along Pacific Coast Highway. What if someone pulling out from a side street doesn't see me because my blue car might be invisible against the backdrop of the ocean?

Seriously, lotsa people believe red cars are more likely to get traffic citations. I don't know if there are statistics to prove this, or whether that might also be true in Japan.

8 lover in Japan 05-29-2006 09:22 AM

I tell you it's all true!!! I probably will be squished by godzilla and total it 3 times in 1 minute if i get a silver one though....my current car(civic) is silver. I was thinking the same thing too Freddie, and blue is one colour the human eye can't focus on properly!! or at least a blue light. and then i was thinking of green! but there are lots of hedges and bushes on the median strips and sidewalks so i may have unwanted camouflague and be hit by a missile or something...can't have green.. so far im liking the red still...maybe if i turn my lights on before sunset people wont mistake my 8 for a cloud on the horizon. haha

Well having owned the Snowflake White Pearl and now own the Titanium ,,
I would recommend the Copper Red or the Phantom Blue.
Neither of these cars colors are normally in our field of vision as a common color.
Now if you get one of these colors everyone will see your car plain as day.
In there focus on your stunning color the will not be paying attention to where they are
going and swerve the opposite direction from your car.
Making your car the safest one on the road.
Bonus.

dmorales 05-29-2006 01:56 PM

I really do think Silver is nice though. That would probably be the color I'd get if I didin't have Black. I would just be sure to pray before getting in!

BLASPHEMY!!!!

tiggerlee 05-29-2006 02:19 PM

I seem to recall a report a few weeks ago that John Stossel did on 20/20 in regards to this very subject. Using data from insurance companies they determined that no one car color is more susceptible to crashes than another.

Ktreece777 05-29-2006 03:30 PM

well when your out driving on the sun its hard to see the yellow so I would mark that one off of you list too... the winning blue is also hard to see when your driving underwater... that is if you have that option on the car

8 lover in Japan 05-29-2006 06:07 PM

the winning blue is also hard to see when your driving underwater
LMAO...thanks for the reminder...I was going to go for the underwater option but it was going to conflict with the laser force field option...I'm big on safety so I'll go for the force field....but then again the batman automatic security armour option looks good too.
thanks tiggerlee, now I can rest assured that no matter what color i choose my 8 and I have as much chance as all the other cars worse or worse!

Ktreece777 05-29-2006 06:11 PM

yeah also man i figured you knew but the blackc is really expensive on insurance bc of the velvet interlaced in the paint to help with the stealth mode it has avaliable... you cant touch those cars or they are ruined.. friend had one really made his insurance go out the roof!

where is your sense of humor? He was only exagerating the fact that the silver is cursed...technically speaking.

SlayerRX8 05-29-2006 09:28 PM

To my best understanding, red cars are more likely to crash than other colors, but for no other reason than sportier cars are red, and is more associated with dangerous driving. Other than knowing how to identify the car, your insurance company will ask you what color the car is to gauge the probability of a crash.

8 lover in Japan 05-29-2006 10:27 PM

I think you're on to something here SlayerRX8. When you think of it, red would have to be the most popular colour for a sports car....well i think you've helped me narrow it down....
question though, does it mean that insurance on red cars is more? is there a rank for every color? so if i got a bright snot green one or vomit brown, people would try to avoid me coz they dont want that sickening color on their car? therefore insurance companies would put those colors at the bottom of the rank and charge less for insurance!! great!! ....but seriously, are red cars more expensive to insure?

BunnyGirl 05-30-2006 12:29 AM

No, they are not. Color has no bearing on price. I read somewhere, though, that decades ago red cars used to (allegedly) cost more to insure because of the price of the paint itself, but I don't know if that is accurate or not.

My insurance (been through two companies in two months now since hte first one was a real ass, LOL) didn't ask the color at all. They just wanted the VIN on my car and the price of the car, the anti-theft/security features on the car, and the safety features primarily for determining my rate. Initially the new company listed the value of the car as a base model so I had to fax them my purchase information so they could raise the value on their paper $11K for the purpose of gap insurance and replacement value. That, of course, raised my insurance by $16 for six months, so not a big deal.

DOMINION 05-30-2006 12:42 AM

My car ins. co. asked me;"How far do you drive, is your car parked in a privet drive way or on the street, how many doors do your car have, do you have a room mate, how many people will be driving the car, what year, ect". They never asked what color my car was.

That's one of the most ridiculous things I've read today.
