Recieved my "engine" recall letter

Just recieved my engine recall letter. They are calling it an emissions recall to sound better I guess.

NoTears316 09-03-2006 11:19 PM

Well... it really is an emission recall. People have been throwing around the title "engine recall" since some will get a replacement if your 8 fails the vacuum test. However 2/3 of the test involves nothing more then a PCM reprogram and a catalytic converter inspection.

BlueSky 09-04-2006 12:26 AM

the mods need to make a sticky thread for everyone to post that the got the letter.

captain mercury 09-04-2006 02:31 AM

received mine as well, on the 2nd
im stoked about the warranty extension if nothing else

mooboy 09-04-2006 03:34 PM

Received mine not too long ago...

Freddie 09-04-2006 05:15 PM

Me too.

jaguargod 09-04-2006 05:29 PM

I thought it was interesting how they wrote the letter. Paraphrased, it was something like "we will check your spark plugs, catalytic converter, oh and replace your engine if needed." I know it wasn't written like that, but it seemed like that was the intent.

Nopstnz 09-04-2006 07:38 PM

Ah, I want to get mine. I went out at 130 Sunday morning to check the mail from Saturday to see if it had happened to come but there was nothing there yet.

NgoRX8 09-04-2006 07:41 PM

got my later on saturday. it's time to change my front bumper and supercat.

Chasvhill 09-05-2006 10:59 AM

Mine is at the shop today getting the check-up. I haven't received the letter yet but was at the dealership Saturday and the service advisor told me just to bring it in today (Tuesday). I'll be very surprised if they find anything wrong. My car has been flawless. :icon_tup: I did notice a blue 8 on the rack with the engine completely out. It's interesting that they pull the engine from under the car with the front suspension and everything - I guess I'd never really thought about it.

Also - I'm driving an 07 CX-7 as a loaner. Not bad. It's sexy looking but from the driver's seat it's still a mini-van.

I'll keep all posted on my visit today.

xeony2k 09-05-2006 11:12 AM

Unfortunately my wife's RX-8 has been anything but flawless. Her car is slated for another trip to Mazda, the guy at the shop said the letter being sent out isn't from Mazda and isn't legit. He claims to have been presented with a few already.

Anyway, on this trip we hope to make it so she has heat and no water in her taillights. The guy in the shop might just have a heart attack when I show him our letter from MNAO. He has to know it is legit though.... right????

Chasvhill 09-05-2006 11:17 AM

He knows. My dealer didn't know early last week but was not surprised when I told him about it. He said he used to work for Toyota and they had the same thing - customers knew about things before they did.

Anyway - when I was in there Saturday he knew all about it.

If your dealership is actually trying to dispute the recall, then you need to find another dealer.

Other people may have presented them the letter that was available on this site instead of waiting for it in the mail. If you got yours from MNAO, take the envelope with you for the proof that it came from them.

shinka213 09-05-2006 02:57 PM

I got my extended warranty letter today, the 5th, but not the recall notice...are they coming in the same envelop or separate altogether?

Same here. I saw the MNAO return address and figured "here's my recall", but the contents were nothing more than the warranty extension stuff.

cruzdreamer 09-05-2006 06:41 PM

Warranty extension, no recall yet....

Count me in the ones who got the warranty extension letter and not the recall letter yet. My vin# was within the numbers I saw on a Mazda letter someone posted about it...so I hope to see the letter soon and have her looked at. I am selling it and either way this can't bet too good.

RotoRocket 09-05-2006 06:58 PM

Got the warranty extension letter but no recall notice here too.

yamajj 09-05-2006 08:15 PM

i got both letters today.(9/5/06) i was wondering if anyone has had their car in for this already. i haven't had any problems with mine, so i'm hoping they just flash my pcm. checking the plugs would be kewl, then i won't need to bother with it.

anyone who has had their car in for the recall, please post up your results.

yamajj

Should I hold my breath?

I might just get our 250 hp then... Yea Baby!

williamngRX8 09-05-2006 11:17 PM

received both letters today. my car has been working flawlessly, wondering if one can feel any changes when recall is done. it wud be awesome though if they throw in some new spark plugs :)

Joe_914 09-06-2006 06:36 AM

Got my letter yesterday. Hope to get it in soon for the check. Car has been flawless so I expect it to be flawless when I get it back.
Other wise the dealer will ge it back.

Mini Cooper did the same thing to me. Brought in a prefectly good working car. drove home a trouble some POS. brought it back "fix it" still screwed up. they got to keep it as I bought the RX-8 the next day.

Hmm Like the Solstice GXP. and I got an itchy check book.

Former A4'er 09-06-2006 08:51 AM

I got both letters yesterday, only had enough time to quickly scan them over. What is with the part that says you can request an reimbursement and you just need to fill out the amount? Is it just for if you need to get a loaner or is it for our trouble?

It's illegal to record audio in Oregon without prior permission from whomever you are recording, so that means you can't tape phone calls unless you have the other person's permission. :)

BunnyGirl 09-06-2006 09:28 AM

When I got home from work last night both the warranty extension and my recall had come in the mail. I haven't called about an appointment yet but I was hoping they would call me soon to say my sun visor had come in so I can get it all done at the same time instead of making several trips.

zoom44 09-06-2006 10:27 AM

folks that got the warranty leter but not ht eotehr yet- the recall is being phased in over a couple of weeks ( a "slow rollout") west and gulf regfions got it first since those regions have shown the most effected cars to date. the otehr 3 regions get it later. i notice at least one person stating the got the one but nothe other was from from illinois. that region and the northeast will probably get letters next week or the one after

I will be there in person tomorrow... we will see how it goes. Truthfully I don't know the guys name I spoke with and this is our first trip to this shop. Bill Britt Mazda in Fredricksburg, VA

Edit: Just spoke with them to confirm my appt. and he acknowledges some knowledge of the recall. They have received nothing formal.... which supports the dealer is the last to now comment mentioned a few post back. He also described the RX-8 as "interesting".

BTW, I reviewed my docs and I have several pages, but they are only the warranty extension, extra pages for the manual and reimbursement form. I do not officially have the "recall" notice.

Chasvhill 09-07-2006 12:33 PM

I got my recall and warranty extension letters the same day. Took my car in this Tuesday the 5th. Got it back at the end of the day. New plugs. New flash. Nothing else. It seems to run exactly the same. The engine may fire off a little quicker when I start it, but that may just be imagined. No new engine for me - thank God. I didn't want to mess with that.

By the way - be sure to take your car in dirty and low on fuel. My service advisor told me that Mazda is allowing them to charge back a wash and fuel fill up. I got about $30 worth of free fuel for my trouble. :)

doc.marx8 09-07-2006 09:38 PM

I hadn't received my recall letters, but knew about it from this forum. called my local Patterson Mazda, in Tustin, Ca. and made an appt, and brought the car in today. They are going to do what is entailed in the recall, plus check my starter and plugs, check my AC cooling temps, and adjust for the loss in power. I opted to have an oil change, so my preliminary estimate is only 24.99 for the Oil and filter change.

I got an 07' CX-7 as a loaner, man o man, those are pretty fun to drive. not as fun as my 8 and I miss her already.

the guys at patterson mazda in orange county are really great with customer service.
