probably should note that my "trade" was actually another lease turn-in ... OH Wait! Just remembered - in addition to the terms I just quoted, they ALSO gave me a check for $850 to make my Acura go away too! Was going to wait for September and when my Acura was going off lease, but they wanted to do the deal right there and then.

On the contrary .. I had the yellow rx-8 for 4 months , never a ticket or pulled over,

My titanium grey on the other hand ...8 tickets to date ... Just goes to show , darker the color in this car atleast ... the more it sticks out

Absolutely!

Any way to find out how many of each color Mazda has sold?

I picked mine up little more than a month ago, and got what I consider to be a completely killer deal on it - I'm leasing it, and I'm paying $362 a month for 48 months, nothing down, tax and license in the payment and ZERO but ZERO due at inception - I signed and drove, that was it. This on an RX-8 that stickered out at $34,804 - it has all available options - GT, appearance, spoiler, accent, navi, 6 disc changer, spare tire, trunk organizer, etc. etc. etc.

The best quote I got from anyone else on any other color was in the mid $400's for the same terms, AND with first payment and security deposit at inception - about $950. I got it in Evanston IL (ritzy Chicago suburb) and the dealer there told me he was willing to "sacrifice" it to get it off his lot. He needed to move more cars to up his allocation for the next month, and especially of RX-8's, and he was willing to completely "dump" this one because "no one in this rich suburb will buy a car that's this color" and that "this color is what the kids want, but no 20 year old can afford a $35,000 car" ... so, their loss, my gain.

I just turned 42 and decided "what the hell" ... let's shake things up. I traded a "Banker's Grey" silver Acura TL on it ...

The funniest thing is that I bought this over the internet - had never seen the yellow -8 except in pictures and when they rolled it out of the delivery bay, I couldn't believe how damn bright it was! But, quite fun! I love it.

My friends all think I'm insane, which personally, I think I have them exactly where I want them!

Stew

And I thought I got a good deal... you go kid!

Aren't you a bit young to be driving such nice color? (50 here)

OTOH I like your take on your friends' reaction, now they can't predict what we may do next! :D

quirky colors like yellow and green are usually made only for one year and then they are discontinued. This is the same for virtually every car brand except really high end sports cars like Ferrari. Anytime you see a teal, green, yellow, or other unusual color it is a virtual guarenty that the color will only be offered for a year in limited quantities before it is discontinued for the following year.

It's funny that the two colors considered the rarest are the same as the only to Rx-8s in my company's parking lot (well, when I drive mine in anyhow). I own a yellow, a coworker owns the Nordic Green.

Something happened the other night on the way home that's never happened before. I was in my yellow '8, and I was passed by another yellow '8! I've seen other '8s while driving mine, but never another yellow. The one that passed me had the appearance package, and chrome wheels. It looked quite nice. Mine is completely stock, so I'm sure there was quite a contrast in looks. I thought about cruising behind them for a while, but I really didn't want to risk a ticket (I was already about +10, so he/she was probably +15 on the speed limit).

Well that was kind of rude.

It's one of the few cars I like in yellow. I just wouldn't buy one because it doesn't match my personality, but I think it looks great.

Thanks - was pretty happy with my situation.

And, being the envy of every 16 year old kid in my neighborhood is fun. I thought I impressed them when I started sitting in with the kid next door's rock band (I play a wicked rhythm guitar on 70's arena rock songs ...), but nothing like this!

And the best part is all my stuffed-shirt friends who all drive "sensible shoes" cars and look at it and say "Wow, I could never get away with driving that."

REALLY? Who the hell is going to stop you???

Only hassle I have now is that I never used to have to argue with the wife over which car she was driving for the day - she was always happy to drive her minivan ... not now.

I wanted yellow, but there was not one to be had with the options I wanted (I was flexible with options) in a 5 state area.
