Rant: sun visors

Why are there holes in the sun visors? Every time i put the sun visor down the sun still shines through the little holes? WTF???

Lord ET 01-08-2010 01:04 PM

With the blast shield down I can't see a thing...

there's holes so that you can still somewhat see when the visor is down. For us tall people, sun visors are typically worthless because if they're down I can't see past the hood of my car.

Wear sunglasses, problem solved.

CyberPitz 01-08-2010 01:15 PM

I figured it was for people seeing around when it is down...

Or so women can put make-up on that much safer!

*runs*

JRichter 01-08-2010 01:38 PM

So you can tell when the light turns green - especially if you're over 6 foot tall.

CTrx8 01-08-2010 01:42 PM

don't worry, it will break soon and then you won't have that problem.

CarAndDriver 01-08-2010 02:13 PM

^ So true. At first, I thought thread was about crappy build, but it was about the holes, which has been discussed before.

dillsrotary 01-08-2010 02:35 PM

They aren't holes so much as cylinders, tilt the visor slightly and not a photon gets through.

Also true.

Just wear sunglasses...

expo1 01-08-2010 03:03 PM

Mine must not be normal, 5/2003 build date and they have not broken yet.

Alexb 01-08-2010 03:05 PM

My passenger's was broken when I bought it. If you don't yank it open then it doesn't break.

Mine hasn't either. It does fit pretty snug, so I'm sure you could break it if you yanked on hard enough.

bose 01-08-2010 03:34 PM

Mine hasn't broken either so that :icon_tup:

I personally like the holes.

CarAndDriver 01-08-2010 08:34 PM

Fortunately Mazda provides a sunglass holder that doesn't fit all sunglasses.

So annoying. I can fit my flak jackets but not my gascans  I just keep the cans in the rear cupholder compratment.

Tweek 01-09-2010 11:30 PM

Sunglasses man.

Sure, some light comes through the holes, but it's not enough to be a problem. I've owned my 8 for over 5 years and I've never had a problem with significant light through those little, tiny holes.

Gee... no one has every told the truth about sun visors.

The wholes are there so we can get an even tan.

ken-x8 01-11-2010 02:34 PM

The holes are my favorite part of the sun visors. Indispensible waiting at a light where you're looking into the sun. This shading technique is similar to the sun goggles that the Inuit use, where they block all but a slit.

You guys are all wrong!

Mazda did it to save weight!

Duh!

Gr8Bullet 01-11-2010 03:07 PM

^ better airflow!

its annoying sometimes tho for me but whatever.

J wind 01-11-2010 09:04 PM

What I did was got some of my left over carbon fiber, from my custom computer tower I was building, and cutted/molded the pieces to fit over those little holes. I could get pictures if anybody wants to see em.
