random stall...
my car is an '04, about 45K miles, i'm the only owner. it's been great and relatively problem free. over the past 3 months or so, the car died randomly on 2 separate occasions. both times i was at a stop light, idling in neutral, the normal 800-ish rpms, and then it just stalled out. no shuttering, no noises, the rpms just suddenly but somewhat slowly dropped to 0! I immediately started it back up and went on my way -- it turned on the first crank, both times.
is this a minor issue like spark plugs clogged or something, or could it be a precursor to something major (knock on wood)?? i plan on buying it out this coming january... |
happened to me when it was hot...u need new spark plugs
|
sweet. i live in texas, and it was hot on the days that it happened.
i don't know anything about spark plugs. is it the case that there are better aftermarket ones or just stick with the dealer ones? |
stick with the dealer spark plugs...have you flooded your car?

thanks swoope. kinda scary for me though - i'm at 45K, first and only engine, no major problems. lease is up in january and i was planning on keeping it. i love the car, but i just don't have the money for possible problems.

spark plugs are every 30K miles, but a little sooner never hurts. Mine were definitely fouled when I replaced them before 30K. If it is a hot day and you are running 87 Octane gas, this can lead to issues as well.

i'll let you know if that's NOT it for whatever reason, but it will be hard to tell definitively because it only happened twice, about a month in between too, and it's starting to get cold here, so it heat is a factor i shouldn't happen for a while! |
