R3 Recaro seats fit

Hi all,

I recently got a used 2010 R3. I like the car generally.
I am 5,9" 180lbs (this is starting to sound like a personal ad!).
My head is close to the roof and my lower back is not happy after a one hour drive.

So can the seat mounts be lowered a bit (an inch would be great), and has anyone had lower back issues and found something to help?

Thanks in advance,
Ciaran

ya i remember a friend of mine would say he had lower back problem in the r3 seats as well. the seats and the rough ride doesn't make the best daily driver.

The seats have been okay for me but I don't think you can lower it any more ... I'm 5'9 as well and 130.

lilring 04-30-2011 08:32 AM

if you ever get rid of the seats.. I am here to take them

mushkid 04-30-2011 08:33 AM

so the R3 recaro seats fit an S1?

back problem could be due to lack of lumber support.
my problem is being too short in the seat. Im only 5'7 and 120lbs.

Why wouldn't they fit?

Just buy seats from the Sport model and sell the Recaros. There plently of nuts on this board that will shell out thousands. I have the Sport and the seats are comfy and have plenty o headroom--I'm 6-2 and long waisted to boot. I had a feeling the Recaros were too good to be true--pinched feeling and apparently sitting higher up to rob almost all the headroom of someone 5' 9"!

The tops of the Recaros with that wide seatbelt racing harness bullshit looks ugly too.

I am sure you could modify the set bracket to lower the seats. You will need to first check for clearance under the seats and then find a welder to modify/lower the brackets.

Or you can trade seats with me, 07 Black/Grey Cloth located in California (sacramento area) :)

Thanks all, I think its time for a little diet (good reason to lose some weight!)

+1 fabricate or modify the seat rail to a lower stance.

Can an R3 seats fits on a 05 rx8? Pics of it, if any? Just curious.

Here's an older thread: Recaro vs. cloth seat

mushkid 04-30-2011 05:42 PM

since lots of parts from the s2 are non-interchangeable, i had to ask lol

I've been in the market for a while now, and I've done some testing lately. For example, last week I tested three 2010 RX-8s a day apart from each other. First an R3, then a Sport, then another R3. I did it because I really wanted to know if there was any significant difference between the two models. My biased opinion is that the R3 certainly has a firmer but pleasant handling/steering/interior feel to it. The Recaros play a big part on that equation.

My final conclusion is that the Recaros are pretty amazing, way better than the regular seats. They really go well with the R3's tuned suspension. However, they are not suitable for anybody that has a "few" extra pounds. If you have a really wide waist, forget about it. The Recaros will make your life miserable because they really "grab" your lower back and hips. I'm tall and relatively thin (6'.1" and about 160lbs) and I could tell that if I gain 5-7 pounds I would not be able to tolerate those seats for long road trips. The Recaros feel really tight, just like a race inspired cockpit.

Overall, I did feel a significant difference in the driving experience between the two models. The Sport is nice with the cloth seats, but for me, the driving experience of the R3 is amazingly superior - Recaros included, LOL.

Ha, ha, that's pretty good.

At 200lbs I figured those seats would be a nightmare, LOL

Seems like I have a similar height & weight as you have.

My thighs used to give me a hard time with the Recaros, but now it has gotten better... Mostly because I've lost 5-10 lbs since I used to weigh 185-190 lbs. Apparently, bike riding to work is one hell of a good excercise which I should continue to keep up. :p:

With that said, I absolutely admire my Recaros. Love everything about them!

jasonrxeight 05-04-2011 09:18 AM

just a tip. if you look into your mirror and dont look like those racing drivers, you might have a bit of problem in the recaro. the ones in the r3 is actually very forgiving, if you get those real racing seat, that should be very interesting.

i just got my 2010 rx8 r3 and im loving the seats
