Quick question on ECU Reset

Hi all,

If I've disconnected my battery for about a week, do I still need to perform the ECU Reset procedures (https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/ecu-clear-reset-27548/) or will that already have been
done by not having the battery connected for such a long time?

I would think it would still reset but would not hurt to also do this to just make sure it resets....

According to post #3 of yhe thread you quoted, codes (and perhaps fuel trim settings) will still be stored in the keep-alive memory.

Do the two resets - They'll take less than a minute...

Also, don't forget that your DSC light will be on after you re-connect the battery. Reset procedure is: ignition on, turn wheel full right (clockwise), full left (counterclockwise), shut off.

That won't clear the KAM and can do some other funky things if it isn't complete. It will also erase your radio presets and clock settings.

There are two reset procedures, one for the NVRAM and the other for the KAM. Neither will erase your radio presets and such like the method SpooledUp7 posted:

1) With the key in the off position, press and hold the odometer reset button and turn the key to on;
Continue to hold the odo button until the odometer reads "TEST" and then release.
2) Turn the key to off and repeat step one.

This will reset the entire PCM except the KAM which contains the sensor profiles amongst other things. You can reset it with the familiar procedure:

1) Turn the key to on
2) Depress the brake pedal rapidly 20 times in a row until the oil pressure gauge sweeps to halfway and back again.

Ah, didn't know about the DSC light.
Thanks for the info, guys!
