Quick DSC question
I know all about turning it off, but can you just give it a quick push to turn it back on after doing the 7 second shutoff?
|
no after you do a 7 second shut off, you need to restart the car to get it to turn back on.
and as long as there is a current DSC thread, ill ask a question too. When you press the DSC button shortly (as in you can turn it back on) does that turn off both dsc and traction control, or is the traction control still on? And when you turn it off for 7 seconds, do all of the stability controls including ABS turn off? thanks |
I believe the momentary push just disables the DSC, traction control is still on. Holding for 7 seconds disables both the DSC and traction control. I believe that the ABS is active all the time.

Actually, it's the opposite. A quick press disables traction control but leaves stability control on - i.e., you can spin the rear tires as much as you choose in a straight line, but get it sideways while you do it and the electronics kick in. Long press lets you get it sideways as well.
It's easily verified in the rain. |
Wow, thanks guys. Questions answered. This must be the most efficent thread on earth.
(And no one told me to do a search!) |
Do a search!! :D
You got a quick , concise answer because you asked a quick, concise question without offending anyone! :) |
Did you ever notice this note on page 5-23 of the owners manual:
If the DSC OFF switch is pressed and held for a second or more, the TCS/DSC system may become inoperative due to the system detecting switch trouble. If the TCS/DSC system becomes inoperative, the TCS/DSC and the DSC OFF indicator lights illuminate simultaneously. In this case, turn off the engine and restart it to restore the TCS/DSC. Sounds like they don't want you to turn both off. |

Yep, that point was discussed some months ago. My theory is that by calling it a "failure mode" thay are covering their asses if someone does have an accident while it's totally disabled.

Lol, I love legal tactics like that.

Unfortunately, there are people who look to exploit loopholes in the law for personal gain. Been there, signed the insurance wavier afterwords. I totally understand why Mazda would be cautious on this.
