Question... How Tall Are You Guys?
First of all, Hello, I'm new to this board (Posts: 1) and I love it! I initially came just to ask this question, but I've been absorbed by the awesome threads, especially the 'little things' one, really great.
Now, my question is, how tall can you be and still comfortably fit into the `8? |
I am 6'2" and I didn't fit well in a sunroof car. I fit fine in the sport package.
There are some taller than I, who have enough head room with the sunroof. It all depnends on your torso and leg length. I could fit in the sunroof with the seat reclined a little, but I don't like driving in that position all of the time. |
im 6'1 and can sit in any seat comfortably (at least when i set the front seats to where i would be sitting). this was just in the showrrom, and it was a slight pain getting my feet in the back seats, but once in, there was more than enough space.
I'm 5'1" and have no problem fitting, but I don't think that was the type of answer you were looking for. :p
im 5'10" and i have the sunroof, i fit fine, ive got a couple inches of head room, and have the drivers seat about halfway slid back.
6'3" - 220# - long legs - I have the GT with Sunroof and I fit great - - Not much room behind me in the back seat but my 13 year old daughter fits fine behind the passenger seat -
I drove a S2000 and a 350Z before I bought my 8 - I fit much better in the 8 - Longest drive I have taken is 4 hours, and it was one of the most comfortable drives I have ever taken. |
I'm 5'10" and have a sunroof. No issues until I put on my helmet, then I have to lean the seat back more than I like.
5'11" I have a sport package.
5'5" I got longer torso in relation to my legs. It seem the car was designed for somewhat shorter average height (like japanese men probably)... Anyway, the car fits perfect for me.
6'2" and have a sunroof, and I'm perfectly comfortable with a few inches of headroom
Probly have longer legs and a shorter torso |
im 5'19" 250lbs, gt package with sunroof, no problems, though i have the seat reclined a bit.
(no that wasn't a typo) |
5'11" w/ sunroof. I have plenty of headroom. How tall are you paperclip?
I'm 6'4" I don't fit behind the wheel of a miata, and I didn't expect to fit in an 8. I have the 6sp manual sport package, and have plenty of room. I'm not sure how comfortable I would be with a sunroof and/or powered seats though. The longest drive I've taken was about 6 hours, stopping only for lunch and gas (no discomfort at all) Before picking up the 8, I had tried the 350Z, Infinity, and a Saab 95. I had planned to look at a few others, but I abandoned those plans after driving the 8.
...If you are concerned about the "fit", then why don't you go test drive one? I'm pretty sure you can find a dealer who would be very happy to show you how well you would "fit" in an 8. It's one thing to read about the 8, ...but their really is no substitute for driving one. |
6'0" with sunroof, plenty of room. 32" inseam :p
6' 2", hair just brushes the sunroof cover when I'm within 2 weeks of a haircut. The other 4 weeks are just fine, though.
You won't be able to tell whether you'll fit or not without actually sitting in the car yourself. There's just too many differences in men's (and women's) builds to say definitively based solely on your height. |
Im 6'6" and have a sunroof, i fit fine in mine. Havent done any seriously long trips yet, but im comfortable in it
Me too!

There are some taller than I, who have enough head room with the sunroof. It all depnends on your torso and leg length. I could fit in the sunroof with the seat reclined a little, but I don't like driving in that position all of the time. I have the sun roof as well. I also like to race. :D The sun roof takes up about 3" of head room and with a helmet on I have to recline the seat quite a bit to fit. Not that it is uncomfortable, but I would like to be a bit more upright. If I had it to do over, I would not have a sunroof. In fact, I am most likely going to have mine removed and have a functional roof scoop installed and new headliner to increase the head room. |
6'3". I fit well in my old Miata, and am just as comfortable in the 8. :)
5'8"....sport package, no sunroof...I fit perfect...I usually ratchet up the seat a little...
6'3" w/ sunroof
Generally, if you like driving up high so you get max hood view, this will be harder to fit in. But, if you're like me and like to drive reclined, there's no problem at all. I had an explorer before this and I had that seat almost all the way back and reclined so that it was hard for people to sit behind me, if that gives you an idea. There's plenty of leg room, just limited headroom. |
6'2" long torso (I acutally fit semi-ok in a miata. Knees almost touch the wheel.
When I test drove the 8, my hair slightly touched the sunroof. It felt kind of annoying but I really didnt play with the seat all that much. |
5'10", With the sunroof my hair was brushing the roof. No thanks I need more than a couple millimeters between my head and the roof. By going without the sunroof, you gain another 1 and a half inches of headroom. And the car looks better without the sunroof, imo.
6' with sunroof. The more reclined the seat, the more head room...just no one can sit in the back seat behind me because they wont have any leg room as I have long legs and the seat is pushed back as far as it can go.
6'6" sunroof, couple long trips fit perfect..............i like tought..........tought as a touiger
I'm 6'4" and I fit just fine in my RX-8 which has a sunroof and power seats. I have the driver's seat all the way down and the seat moderately inclined, but it's a comfortable driving position. I have long legs (34" inseam) so perhaps a proportionally shorter torso makes life easier for me. I also fit in a Miata, by careful adjustment of seat squab position and recline angle, but then I'm motivated to fit in that car!
6'6''- 260lbs- I am a big person- When testing the 8 for comfort, the only option, I felt I wanted to option out off, was the sun roof. Getting in and out of the vehicle is easy, and it's a pleasure to take on long trips. It is the most comfortable sports car I have owned, (Corvette, Porsche, Alfa, Audi).
6'3" sport pkg.
6' 6", and very comfortable! I think the headroom is overrated anyways.. Has anyone heard of extra comfort because you have 2" clearance rather than 1"?? :-)
6'2" and no sunroof, fits great with helmet!
Oh, the reason I was asking is because there's not many Mazda dealers around boston, and I'm only 17, just got my license, so I don't have any serious means of getting an '8, It was more just for curiosity because I was driving by one the other day and it looked awfully small. Besides, I'm not ready for a brand new car with such little experience (or such little funds ^^).
6'1", I use the roof of the 8 to measure when I need a haircut. And I've found more than one driving position (different styles) that I can fit into (Laid back, agressive on the wheel, etc).
It does bug me that my knees bump my (pardon the rhyme) keys. But I live with it. |
6'4", my RX* has the sunroof and power seats also. I fit fine, my head is close to rubbing the ceiling but I tilt the chair back some.
Thanks

I am 5'11". Depending on how I sit, my hair is sometimes touching the ceiling (I have very short hair) or my head is touching the #@$@# ceiling. When I hit sharp bumps, my head sometimes hits the ceiling. Oh, and forget about putting a helmet on in this car if you bring it to the track. Othewise, it is a fine car.

6' 6", sport package (no sunroof) - I fit fine. With sunroof, I wouldn't.

obviously how you sit will change things, i always use this methode when getting in a car : to adjust how close or far away to slide the seat : push the gas and clutch all the way down, your knees should be bent just slightly. to adjust the seat back up or down : put the inside of your wrists sitting on the wheel at the '10 and 2' position. and sit all the way back in the seat so your back and sholders are touching the seatback. to adjust the steering-wheel up and down, when you have the seat bottom and seat back where you want them, look at the gauges (in the 8 look at the tach) now bring the steering wheel down till the bottom of the top of the steering-wheel is just touching the top of where the tach is. example is the = i s the steering wheel you want it to just meet the tach so you can still see everything. ======== ''''''''''7'''''''''' i find this is not only the most comfotable position to cruise around it, also puts everything right in reach of the driver and keeps you in a position for good visibilty and car control. of course differnt strokes for different folks |
6'0'' And have no problems at all.
No sun/moon roof, though. |
I'm 6'3" and I fit in the car well WITHOUT the sunroof. However, with the sunroof it's a tight fit. I have to lean my seat back a bit.
Yeah, what i find is that i, 6'4" fit fine, but my friend who is 6'3" doesn't, so it all about how you sit in the car, so what i find comfortable is also space saving.
I'm 6'0" and have plenty of room with the sunroof. My brother is 6'5" and fit pretty well. He used to own an 81 RX-7 and his first comment driving the 8 was "wow, they really improved the room on this".
I'm 6'5" and have the sunroof... I fit fine with the seat all the way down and tilted at a fairly large angle (i have long arms)... If you are tall, consider this car a 3 seater, because no one will ever fit behind you. I've had my car about 18 months and still no one has ever sat behind me... oh well... i bought the car for me, not to cart around my friends...
^- exactly what he said.
Im 6'1 with a sunroof and fit no problem. That being said my backseat has 1 effective seat (nobody in their right mind would sit behind me)
my chair is as low as it goes, and almost as far back as it goes, and i drive with my chair more reclined than normal. |

I'm 6'2", and I cannot wear a helmet in the car (it has a sunroof). Not really a problem, since it's my wife's car, and I have a perfectly good performance car in which I do fit wearing a helmet :D , but it's worth considering if you're buying the car for yourself. Also, of course, don't discount the allure of performance driving once you see how much fun the car is to drive; just because you aren't buying the car to autocross it, or drive it on the track, doesn't mean that you won't use if for just that purpose. |
Excellent comment Spider, many have found the helemt and Sunroof- a poor mix.
I'm VERY tall at 5'9 and I fit just fine.
I'm about 6'3" and fit just fine with a sunroof...not sure I'd fit with a racing helmet...I have really long arms so my seat is typically angled back more for that rather than the height issue...I'd ay I have an inch or two of space between my head and the roof. Really depends on torso length vs. leg length and how you like your seat back to be angled. I have the seat pretty far back but could go back a little bit...
5'11", long legs, I fit fine. Have driven 6 hours continously (besides gas stop) and felt fine. I've had mine sound insulated and that helps keep the fatigue down.
