Question about the RX8
I was wondering if "all" RX-8's have cold start problems. I don't too much about rotary engines, and I'm in this thread where this guy's saying how all RX8's have cold start problems. I know that there are some that do, but is it really that common?
http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=289511 here's the thread if you want any more info. Thanks in advance |
In a word, NO.
|
16 months of ownership here and over 17k miles. Not a single start problem :)
|
Alright....because we seem to have an RX8 hater over here and I needed some info to back it up
|
I would tell the guy to come over to the board and get a better feel for how many people actually have problems, but we don't want someone like that on this board.
Probably a young kid who didn't have enough money to buy himself a 6-spd RX-8 and had to settle for a slower Type S. Seems pretty immature and uneducated to me. |

No problems with start what so ever. Even when I had to shut down cold. :o
|
no- your reply should be- ask the 2000 or so owners in canada how many have had trouble starting on a cold day.

Celcius?

No cold-start problems here in Florida... :D :D :D
Seriously, I don't even worry about flood issues when I start and shut down the engine cold. I just make sure to blip the gas prior to turning off the engine. Ciao! |
1 year, 9 days, 21 hours, 7 minutes and ~13,600 miles--2004 6MT: not even so much as a sputtering start (and I'm not nearly as careful as some folks about warmming up, e.g stand on head, count to 15, rev to 2700 rpm, etc. etc.--j/k no offense intended :D )
|
Answering an inquiriy from zoom44: That's minus 35C, although there's not much difference between C and F at that point. They cross at minus 40. Minus 35C = minus 32F.
|
Several things that largely eliminated the flooding issue.
Most importantly, the revised flashes (M or later) Higher capacity battery Improved Starter New plug design (slots to prevent fuel from pooling) |
Wow, I am seriously impressed with the majority of the people posting in that thread :) Lot of very cool people over there!
And no, I've never had a single problem starting my car, and I (like many other people here) have one of the very first production 8s. |
no problems here either, cold or hot.

No problems in 14000 miles so far.
|
Add me to the no problems list. And we have some pretty cold winters here.
|
wow, that was a nice read, can't tell you how many times I scroll down to the next post thinking, waiting for a honda fan boi to start a flame war but in the end the real auto enthusiasts win and gave an unbiased opinion. Cool thread surprised me.

Everybody ssshhh! Let'em think our cars have massive problems and keep the 8s to ourselves. The less on the road the better.
J/K-seriously...the only complaint I have is that gas mileage isn't good but I knew that before purchasing. Other than that, this car rocks and starting problems have been non-existent. |
Do a search on "RX-8" there and you can re-live the experience again and again! Repeat with other boards.
