New to the forum....so new I don't even have my car yet. But that's another subject altogether. I have noticed a few things in my late hour visits to the lot while waiting for the Thermal Damage recall to be performed.

I bought a leftover 04 and have a question about the leather and seats in general. How quickly do the side bolsters wear? I ask this because my car, which is still 'brand new' appears to have wrinkles in the driver's side bolster along with very dry leather on both front seats (I assume this is because it's been sitting in the sun for a year).

That brings me to another question, "What are the dealer's obligations in regard to delivering the car in a 'new' condition?" I have never had leather in a car before but, would imagine that if the leather appears dry now it stands a better chance of cracking sooner. And the side bolsters wrinkles worry me that the leather may already be irreversibly close to cracks.

Only the "seating surfaces" are leather. That's the bottom centre panel and the seatback centre panel. The side bolsters and seatback rear are not. Wrinkles in leather seats are normal, and the side bolsters will wrinkle. As soon as you get your car apply leather conditioner. As long as the leather hasn't cracked yet it is fully recoverable. "Hide food" is reputed to be the best - get at Jaguar dealers or search the net. I use Zaino leather products myself. The cleaner works well and the conditioner even smells like new leather. It's also good for the "non-leather" leather.

 

Ask the dealer to clean and condition the leather since it is still their car. Why spend your time on it. As soon as you pick it up you are going to want to be driving it.

 

BTW, Crash, unless that's your actual name, I'd change it. I don't consider myself superstitious, but there are some places you just don't go.
