Question on the 8

i am planning to get this car soon ..but i heard from a lot of ppl it doesnt have enough power.. am i right? or wrong?? is 240hp ad 150Torque too little?? someone please enlightning me :boring:

BlueEyes 03-23-2006 12:49 AM

It has enough power for some, and not enough for others. The easiest way to answer it is to test drive the car.

sojourner 03-23-2006 12:51 AM

^^^ What he said. It is too... It is all subjective.

Kensi 03-23-2006 01:20 AM

awww comon guys! be more specific

swoope 03-23-2006 01:31 AM

if you dont have a big penis. you should get a corvette or harley....

if you really enjoy cars and have no ego issues. bye what the f you want. make you happy.

duh... duh...

rocket surgery, no.....

daisuke 03-23-2006 01:31 AM

well what are you used to, if you have a 400 hp car with a lot of torque then it'll feel weak, if you have a 120hp car with a small engine then it's going to feel like a lot.

The 8 doesn't have a lot of low band torque so you won't feel it come on in a low gear... but it's all feel, and that's what they're trying to tell you, drive one and find out for yourself

How could I, or anyone, possibly tell you if the Rx-8 has enough power to satisfy you?

Just go test drive it. Make up your own mind.

I am American muscle car fan to the end of my days. Trans Ams, Cameros, Corvettes, Mustangs.

I like my torque around the range, or higher, than my horsepower. I always will.

However, after driving the Rx-8, I will tell you that, for me, it made up for its lack of torque (which for me was hardly noticable beacuse I haven't had a big chance to drive heavy torque cars).

well if you have driven those cars you would know... but the 8 handles better than all of them... and the trans am days were the best part of motorsports in my judgment...

I think you've had enough!

Some people here feel it doesn't have enough power—those who want a torquey engine, who want to be pushed back into their seat when they floor it at a stop light. I suspect that's more an Amurican thing ("wanna race?") than a world thing. But if you read reviews of the 8 from just about any car magazine, you'll find auto journalists love the car and, typically, the engine, too. Why? For many, it's fun to zing the engine up to 9k rpm, and most people love the way the 8 feels and handles. You'll find lots of words like "lithe, agile, smooth, light on its feet." Keep in mind that the main reason the car feels so good and handles so well is because of the small size (less than 13.5" tall!) and light weight of the rotary engine, which can be placed low and back in the car. So, in effect, you're trading off a little power—well, torque—for superb feel and handling. A trade I'm very happy to make.

The 8 doesn't go faster than 78.3 mph, with the wind, so as long as that's good enough, you'll be fine.

this is like the 100th time that someone has mentioned that the 8 has no power :spank: the 8 has plenty of power for you to drive around and have fun with, it may not exactly have the best compared to a 350Z, STi, EVOXIII.... though it' still one of the best and reliable...... Honestly the 8 is a required taste, if you don't appreciate cars, and or don't like things about it, then don't buy it..... :Eyecrazy:

ACRX8 03-23-2006 09:35 AM

Enough power? :scratchhe

"Enough power" is purely in the eye of the beholder, uh, I mean driver. Take a test drive and you'll know, one way or the other.

Well, the only two cars I had before this was a 1993 4 cylinder Nissan Altima and a 1997 Toyota 4runner. For me, this thing feels like a rocket, and I am keeping myself in my ignorant bliss by not driving any Z's, Evo's, STI's, etc. If you are coming from super fast car, then you might feel like you are taking a step down in the power department. But like everyone else and their mother has already said, go test drive one!

RotoRocket 03-23-2006 10:28 AM

I'm older, as I'm in my early 30s.

I've had enough go-kart ride experiences in my life.

I don't want to feel every nook and cranny in the road ripple through my ass and spinal column anymore.

Hence, I'll gladly trade a one second or less difference to 60 for far better insulation from the elements.

Funny... for being a fan of the muscle cars you spelt CAMARO wrong.....
anyways, i own a 94 LT1 Trans am.. 300hp 305 Lb Ft of Torque.. and I LOVE my Rx8 more then i even loved my Trans am..the low end torque isnt that big of a deal...i thought it would be.. but after only one day of driving my 8, i have complelty forget about the low end torque, so have all my friends who use to love the TA... they think the 8 is way better.. better acceleration.. (its smoother) and it still has great power i find.... enough power to keep me grinning... (again i use to own a 300 hp/Tq Car.. so thats saying something)

captain mercury 03-23-2006 11:30 AM

this is my first car that hasnt been considered a POS by friends, family, and myself, so in my world the rx-8 has plenty of power. i've driven my friend's sti, so i understand the rush that comes along with the acceleration. but, for myself, and i'm guessing everyone else who doesnt have something to prove at every stoplight, the rx-8 has satisfying power to say the least.

missinmahseven 03-23-2006 11:34 AM

She's fast 'nuff to be a lot of fun. She's fast enough to be the Grand Am Sports Touring champ 2 years in a row.

But she's no dragstrip queen. So the question is.. do you live to drive, or do you live to dragrace? If you live to drive, she's more than allright.. she's brilliant.

If you just live to dragrace, get an old beater and drop the biggest lump you can find into it. Just don't expect it to drive as sublimely as the 8 does. Few cars do, at any pricepoint.
