Question

How come some threads get a 'Search noob!' response while others actually get their similar question answered?

Trekk 04-20-2007 10:01 AM

Some people never learnd. "If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything"?

Also people like to do it for extra post counts.

GO SEARCH !

CTrx8 04-20-2007 10:35 AM

depends on mood, who's on to answer, how much the OP really seemed to look. but mainly just mood.

Redpit10 04-20-2007 11:38 AM

Depends on who answers first I feel. You get the kind of person to say search, and then you get tons of others who jump on the bandwagon. Or you get the person who gives you a good answer and then others come and jump on that bandwagon. Its the whole group mentality thing. Plus there are always a few "forum leaders" who everybody praises and just follows blindly. Happens on all forums.

dmc27 04-20-2007 12:07 PM

I concur. Herd mentality - if a search nazi posts first it runs that way, if not you get answers. For the most part the questions get answered either way, and it just becomes a matter of how much negative crap gets in the thread. Tho the atmosphere here seems a bit more relaxed over the last year.

But you just never know - it def. depends on mood to some extent.

oh, and BTW - DIAF n00b!!

I usually follow the phases of the moon. This closer we get to a full moon the more "search N00b!!!" answers you'll get. Seriously its a proving fact.

dmc27 04-20-2007 12:21 PM

^nah. That's just your monthly cycle.

Krankor 04-20-2007 04:14 PM

Pathetic, really, that there's still such a herd mentality, even within a group which, pretty much by definition, is made up of individualists. One doesn't buy an RX-8 to go along with the crowd.

shaunv74 04-20-2007 04:25 PM

I have a mental graph in my head with idiocy of the question on one axis and attitude of the person on the other axis.

As the idiocy of the question increases I am more likely to get pissy and throw the ol' search card. If they have a fairly honest question that they could probably find searching then I'll give them my answer and tell them to search for more.

As the attitude and sense of entitlement of the poster gets worse then I am more apt. to throw the search card. If I feel like someone shows up brand new and expects everyone to spoon feed them answers, refuses to search on their own with comments like "I ain't got time yo!" Then I'm more inclined to flame them and throw the search card.

That and if they get really uppity then I move in and try and score a thread kill... :evil_laug

This thread should have been posted in the lounge or something... as it is not really RX-8 related.

I disagree. It is (presumeably) about the way questions are answered (or not) in *this* space. It is not an RX-8 discussion, but it is an "RX-8 Discussion" discussion.

In any case, I would never suffer anyone to have to post in the lounge.

Icemark 04-20-2007 04:46 PM

ah... see I always figured this section was just for discussing RX-8s... and not forum operations/manners (or Zcars, or VIN checks, or fake rotary engines, or...)

Krankor 04-20-2007 05:08 PM

If you have a question about how things work in "RX-8 Discussion" and want to get an answer from the people who actually participate on "RX-8 Discussion", then where else are you supposed to post it?

swoope 04-20-2007 05:16 PM

tone of the op, and if they even tried to read anything..

Some noobs ask good questions.
Some noobs know how to search.
Some noobs research before they purchase.
Some noobs just never learn.

I thought the general consensus was.........to start calling them "Nooblets"?

nycgps 04-21-2007 12:06 AM

Thats because most newb asswipes just wanna go the easy way without any effort. Came out of nowhere and like *Yo watz go for my car to make it fast to pwn 350z~?*

Its your own god damn car so find the answers your own god damn self, do your own homework, search for god's sake, same question has been answered like 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times.

What if going against the herd is mentally handicapped? Individualism for its own sake is not a virtue.

(Neither is blindly following the lead of others, which was your point I'm sure; I'm just being a pain in the ass.) :)

Nor is individualism for its own sake individualism. Individualism means making your own independent judgement, regardless of what the crowd says. It doesn't mean automatically bucking the crowd, that's just herdishness in the opposite direction. Learn what individualism is before you start criticizing it.

You sure are!

I'm not criticizing individualism. Just entertaining the possibility that an individual can make a decision, regardless of what the crowd says, and be wrong. Automatically disagreeing with the crowd wasn't my point.

Holy delayed response Batman. I blame the OP. If he hadn't searched and found this thread again, none of this would've happened.

Too much searching going on at this site.:icon_no2:
