Q for engine breakers...

This is a 25 mph zone. You've finished coming to a stop and are re-launching to accelerate. But the next stop sign is within visual range. Are you going to hit 2nd or 3rd gear?

2nd gear: You shift from 1st to 2nd gear after launch. Since the next stop is so close, you just stay in 2nd and ease off gas to engine break when you're close.

3rd gear: You shift to 1st, 2nd, and then 3rd after launch. Ride 3rd to stop sign, then downshift to 2nd to slow down.

Is one method or the other more conventional or more approved? I'm sometimes a bit conflicted in these 25mph zones.

Since its a 25 mph zone I would stay in second and ride it. I dont like to use brakes when I dont have to.

i say just leave it in first:)

i'd go to second, hit 25mph, put it in neutral and then coast.

Engine braking helps save gas.

When the accelerator pedal is depressed, the fuel injectors stops injecting fuel completely.

leave it in 2nd, dont put it to N thinking that you might save gas.

you're actually using gas in N.

if u leave it in gear and take ur foot off, the ECU will shut gas delivery.

i like rolling, im not too concerned about that little bit of gas.

yeah i would leave it in 2nd and coast to a stop or put in neutral and coast(done it forever and a hard habit to break but i'm trying...any little bit of savings on gas is worth it in my book)

Using brakes more than you have to is better than changing gears more than you have to, brake pads are cheaper than clutches ;)

I'd probably also just use second though, I'd probably spend a lot of gas flooring it until I had to stop and brake violently :D
