Proud new RX-8 owner! :-)

Bought my 04 Black on Black RX-8 last saturday :). Still waiting for the weather to clear up (and my zaino kit to arrive) so I can get her looking good for some pictures to post. Think I did ok on the price, 21k on a GT package with everything but Nav... it had 17k miles on her. Flew out to Denver to buy her... previous owner picked me up, I took her for a test drive and proceeded to had him the check. Easiest $21k I've spent lol.

The Mod addiction has already hit me. I've already added an Axial Flow short shifter and a K&N Drop in Filter (sounds mean now hehe). I love the shifter although it is kinda loud compared to the previous one, especially shifting into 2nd gear and out of 2nd gear... almost like a rubbing noise... I'll have to call and see if that is the norm.

Had my first experience with snow and summer tires a couple nights ago which involved me sliding completely around and narrowly missing a ditch... stupid freak snow storm. Needless to say I'm avoiding even the hint of snow now.

Couple questions... this morning when I was heading out I was heading out into traffic so I had to open her up a little before she was warmed up... and I had what felt like a fuel cut off around 6k rpms... so to test it I shifted to 2nd and tried to go above that and once again it seemed to cut me off... now it was 30 degrees at the time. After the car warmed up it was good. Does anyone know if this is the norm in cold weather?

Now I just can't wait until spring break because my new Apexi Exhaust will be in from Japan ready for install :)... I used to have money lol... damn you Mazda!

Welcome and congrats!

If you don't plan on driving in the snow with her (I doubt it) then no need to change the tires but if you are then snow tires are A MUST!

Is this your first rotary? If so...READ READ READ READ, you have ALOT to learn. If not...then you should know that you shouldn't rev her high when she is cold NOR turn her off till she is "fully" warmed up.

The Renesis does have a rev limit when it's cold to protect the engine from harm but just like any engine you really shouldn't rev her high when she is cold.

Lastly, DO NOT TURN IT OFF COLD...or else you probably will be visited by the "flood" feiry and trust me...you don't want to go through the hassle.

Search and read all you can, must questions have been asked a billion times and some people really aint nice to newb's who don't search. Just an FYI...glad you came and congrats again!

I'm in Detroit, it's quite cold. I've never experianced a fuel cut out, but I know FOR SURE you don't wanna rev our cars till they are warmed up. You've got gears man, try shifting at 4k till she's ready.

Yes, listen to the above advice.....welcome and congrats! :)

Thanks for the greetings :)... I've been lurking for about 6 months... researching as much as I could so I could make the right choice for my car... and the right choice I did make! I've learned a lot here, and still have a bunch more to learn... thanks for the heads up on the rpm limiter in the cold weather... I'll be much more mindful of that in the future.

Congrats man!

and yes.. the fuel cut off is normal.

Did you get the manual with the purchase? read it.. i read mine and it said that when the engine is cold, as a security feature, fuel is cut off if u begin to rev up or put too much stress on the engine.. but once its warm, all systems are GOGOGO!

rommel 03-09-2006 08:41 AM

Yah... with midterms these last couple weeks I haven't had time for reading of the manuel... I really do need to sit down with it for a good couple hours :)

abs016 03-09-2006 09:02 AM

lol
i thought it wud take me a couple of hours.. i was right.. so much detailing... when u read.. there iwll be a few times when u will go "WOW... this car is awesome."

Fuel cutoff could be because the car was cold, or perhaps from what i've read it could be a sign that your cat is failing.

Welcome :)
