Protecting interior from boxes, etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to protect the interior (console, seats, doors) from a bunch of boxes and signs? I was thinking of getting one of those quilted moving pads.

Second question, has anyone damaged the backseat portion of the console from putting too much weight on it? Would it be a bad idea to put say a box on top of it?

uh, maybe not use it as a moving van?? Seriously, I have the same basic car as you, why are you stuffing that kind of crap in your 8?

Sounds like you're heading off to school... don't use it as a moving van. Really. I used to stuff my cars when I was in college. But, and I hate to say this, they were much sturdier than the 8. Both the front and rear consoles will break if you put much weight at all on them.

The car weights 3,090 pounds. That's awesome in today's world of 3,500 pound sportscars. But with that weight savings, comes a price - thin panels (check out the thread on the recent hail damage, the discussion on trunk lid dents from closing them, etc., lightweight interior components, etc.

So, the short answer: No. ;)

If you're careful-this car will easily hold a 27in television.

Don't put them in there.

MailBoxes Etc, The UPS Store, places like that....are your friends.

blankets will protect the console and I'd say you could safely put 30 lbs of weight on top of the console without it failing. I wouldn't do much more than that though.

I had a whole drumset in mine last week - the bass drum in one rear seat, the tom toms nested and stacked in the other, the snare in the middle and the cymbals and stands in the trunk. Not desirable, but doable in a pinch - just protect well with blankets and or moving pads. Don't forget to protect the backs of the front bucket seats as well.

Wouldn't playing the CD or MP3 version be easier? :D

Seriously, the interior plastics cannot take much abuse. I wouldn't risk any scratches or other damage trying to haul boxes in my baby.

Made me laugh!

I also recently had two Marshall and one Fender 15 watt combo amplifyers in the trunk (little guys), and two electric guitars and my acoustic guitar in the back seat along with one acoustic bass.

Yeah, it's easier to buy the CD, but there's no substitute for live music.

Totally agree. Even though I'm into high end audio for about twice the price of my RX8, there is no substitute for live. Sounds like you're a pretty serious musician, hauling an acoustic bass around in an RX-8?! I presume you had the sunroof open.

You're probably thinking a concert bass violin - all 7 feet of it ... no ... this was a Washburn AB10 Acoustic/Electric bass guitar - very cool instrument ...

The ultimate cargo-hauling solution: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/custom-hitch-30917/ and a 4x8 uHaul trailer.
