Programmable options ???
Does any one know if there are other programmable options such as:
Auto door locks @ 10 mph Auto door unlock when you pull the e-brake Open windows with key remote Open and close windows with the key in the door Daytime running lights Follow me home lights (lights stay on 30 seconds after you shut off the car) Not to make a direct comparison but when I bought the MINI Cooper we got a whole list of programmable option to choose from. |
definite no on the window controls from the key, not sure about the auto lock at 10 mph, no unlock with ebrake, no auto headlights or daytime running lights (often controlled by the same system), and no follow me home lights.
1 out of 12 ain't bad :D |
I don't know if those are available, but some of them would be neat to have.

Yeah, I really liked the fact that I could roll down my windows as I was walking to the car. The Texas heat can be a killer. At least this way you can let some of the heat out before you get to the car.

I have all those features! :D
My locks are ignition controlled: ignition turn on - doors lock, ignition turns off - door unlock Windows and sunroof are independently ventable or fully open from remote All windows and sunroof close upon arming Doors pop open from remote One touch windows (all window controls) (one touch rolls all the way up or down, tap again while moving and stops) Auto lights - come on automatically, shut off automatically...delayed illumination ie "follow me home" Remote start "turbo timer" - used to let the car cool down or run while I make a quick stop. :D My suggestion....get an aftermarket system and you too can do all this! :D |
Devoid
The 8 does standardly come with a "turbo timer" I recently was driving around a neighborhood slowly looking at houses and pulled into a driveway and turned the car off and the fan turned on and ran for a minute or so. |
Devoid-
What aftermarket system do you have? |

A turbo timer is actually a form of remote start. Rather than remotely starting the vehicle, the turbo timer delays the shutdown of the vehicle. Its referred to as a "turbo timer" because its purpose is to allow a turbo on a vehicle to cool down - and this is done by keeping the engine running at idle. So thus my 8 will remain running, if I choose, after I've removed the key from the ignition, walked off, locked, and armed the vehicle....it will wait about 10-12mins to shut down (this is programmable). |

wow that really has to make the gas mileage suck. |
Buy a car in Canada, it is mandatory the new ones have daytime running lights. Then you get a nice long drive to get used to the new ride!
|
I really didn't want the daytime lights, I more curious about the overall programmable features.
|
devoid- thanks for that info- this is a forum where members help other members not the opposite.

devoid...lol, your system...let's just say is not from our time...lol
I would LOVE the auto lock at 10mph & the one push window open that works for the drivers window but not the passengers. Why put it in the drivers but not the passengers??? I should be able to tap both windows down and they come down all the way without having to hold the passenger side window button down. I mean...come on, that took less than 10 sec of thinking and 1min of programming...what's up Mazda? Let's get to the point...is ANYTHING programable in the 8? |
A lot of the options on the 8 suck compared to my old VW Golf.
I was shocked that the 8 didn't have: Window Down via Key. Better Power Window Options Cooler dash lights Automatic Door Locks @ 15KPH. |
ÜberJumper-German cars tend to have all the goodies, even Volkswagen. My 1999 Mercedes C280 has ALL of the options you mentioned except they were all standard.
|
I just want two:
10mph/15mph door lock & one push window down for the passenger side That's all....that's all...why Mazda...why? |
since most of you seem to be complaining about the same features, auto door locking and window automation, I've done a little research (since I'm so "unhelpful") ;) :p
I would recommend some form of directed electronics alarm system. Depending upon how much of a system you want they have various priced lines. There have already been a number of 8 owners who have installed Viper systems on their vehicles to do much of what you want. For autolocking/unlocking that would be ignition controlled - pretty much any of the Viper alarm or remote start/alarm systems can be programmed for this. (ie key in ignition, locks lock, key out of ignition, locks unlock) For window automation (ie 1 touch up down for all windows, and remote control) - Viper makes a 530T module that allows 2 windows control over 2 directions. This module also allows control via the remote. (Theoretically you'll need another for the sunroof) As for remote start, again, there have been many previous discussions of 8 owners having installed Viper systems in their vehicles. I have contributed many times to the subject of remote starts on manual transmissions. The 8 has a nuetral switch that can be tied into for an alarm system...thus, only starting it the e-brake is on, and the tranny is in nuetral. As for key control over windows...I can't help there...I don't have key holes in my 8. I would imagine, however, that control could be tied in with the previously mentioned 530T module from Viper to allow you to hold the key in the lock or unlock position and thus controlling the windows. Finally, Viper also has a 545T module called their Nite Lite system. This is an automated lighting control system. I hope this was being helpful! ;) :p |
thanks devoid i'll check up on that. you are very helpful. ;)
|
THANKS! But...sorry to add a BUT...
I don't want another control...that's the problem. I have the cool 2005 Key Fob thing and I don't want to add something else to my key chain for controling stuff on the car. So... How do I get the autolock & one push window down (passenger) side to work for me? |
^^ I'm sure with a little ingenuity and creative thinking you could do this. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to tie the Viper systems into the stock alarm controls. That way making say pressing unlock 3 times in a row vent the windows, 4 rolls them all the way.
As for 1 touch windows, simply adding the 530T module should resolve this. You shouldn't need a full blown Viper alarm for that...just the module will take car of it. My recommendation would be to find an extremely knowledgable shop (you know...the guys that don't just blindly install and follow the directions, but rather make it work how you want it to work). And as a last resort get me to come up with a schematic for you! :p |
devoid...you give me too much credit...LOL
I don't have the know how to do electrical stuff to my car. Forgive my lack of knowledge with this stuff...and forgive my lazyness learning. I HAVE SO MUCH to learn... Thanks for your help, I'll go do some research and figure it out. THANKS! |
It's a SPORTS Car
Get a Lexus if you really need all that stuff! My original 1970 240z- didn't even have a heater- but boy was it a blast to drive!
|
I understand the "sports car thing" trust me...what I want is simple:
One push window down for passenger side Auto door locks That's it...nothing major needed... |
