Problems about the clutch...

Hi my name is Don and recently just purchased the 06 rx8...
I love the car and all but one little problem....
my clutch is way to in to the car... so when im driving my gas leg is all crammed up... is there a part u can purchase or something to adjust the clutch height???
i know there is adjustable parts for other cars like mustang, but had no luck finding one for the rx8... or a universal part for all cars...
can some one please help with this problem? anyone know any sites that make them or where i can place an order for special order or something... im a regular driver but my leg is way too uncomfortable...

PLEASE HELP~!@~!@~!@~!@ :(

scoot the seat closer to the pedals?

SoFL_RX8 06-05-2006 03:39 PM

I agree the pedals arent in the best positions, and they SHOULD be adjustable (pretty common option in cars now) but theyre not. Its not so bad I would go out and buy pedal extentions, but its a bit uncomfy. I dont believe you are gunna find any simple solutions to this problem.

how tall are you?

mysql101 06-05-2006 03:59 PM

Dumb question, but is your left leg about 2' shorter than your right?

I hardly ever use the clutch...if you rev the engine just right, it will slide in like a lubed banana skin. At lights slip it into neutral.

I've heard of this before, but can you elaborate on your technique?

I think Raz is pulling your leg. At least I think he is... sometimes I'm not sure... :Eyecrazy:

Haha no its entirely possible to do what raz said. Ive never seen it done on a rx8 though, but it works on a friends older sentra...

yiksing 06-05-2006 10:36 PM

Its possible to do what Raz did theoritically and practically but it takes lots of practice and knowing your car's transmission well.

F' that... I don't even feel comfortable popping it out of gear into nuetral before a stop without putting the clutch in. The 8 really likes to hold it into gear.

Oh and the engagment point is right at the top of the pedal travel and is really short and grabby... I did however see a post on here where a guy took the clutch pedal off, put a steel cube on and then taped the pedal cover back on. :Freak_ani

It also helps if you can hear the thing or at least the motor, unfortunately the rotor has no vibration and you can't hear the engine. This is good but bad for youe cheating techinque.

I remember reading a professional RX-8 review in one of the car mags, and the only thing they didn't like was the "long throw clutch", saying it seemed a mismatch with the short throw shifter.

So you're not alone in that observation, Don.

Thanks for the tip, Xantium. I'll try a shallower clutch press. Up til now, I guess I have been pushing it all the way down.

I know it is possible. My dad, stepfather and grandfather all told me that they could shift without using the clutch. I just don't know what the rpm range is for the shifting.

Razpewton 06-06-2006 10:11 AM

I WAS only kidding, guys. I know it's possible to match the mechanical harmonics of the transfer case and shift, but I wouldn't really try this or use it on a daily basis.

Paul knows me TOO DAMN WELL!! LOL

Check out this DIY - https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...t=clutch+pedal

I am 5'7 and I ultimately adjusted by seat position to get smooth quick shifts because yes, even though the RX8 clutch disengages high in the stoke it still does prefer the pedal to go all the way to the stop ... a long throw. I expect a stainless steel clutch line would also help.
