Question Is the price right? 2009 RX-8 Sport, less than 20k miles

I'm checking in with the crowd to see if the pricing is right on an RX-8 I'm interested in.

2009 RX-8 Sport velocity red
No sunroof, no leather
around 20k miles
Seems to be clean condition mechanically and cosmetically.
Buyer is asking $9,300.

I just asked a bunch of questions like service records, driven in salt, accident history, etc, but for the sake of this let's assume it's clean and average maintained and I could haggle down from there if there are issues.

I believe that's NADA retail at excellent condition, take in consideration that it's 8 years old, scratches/dents and that you may need to replace a few bushings, brakes, maybe tires and so on, I'd say $7k to 7.5K, maybe 8k if perfect with a good compression test. IMHO, color is the main thing as the VR was the most common color for 2009-2011, I could not find any other color in my area after a year + of searching for an S2. Also take in consideration your area.

A friend of mine in NOVA just bought a car that fits that description (2009, red, 16k, base), are you sure it's not sold? He paid just over 8k.

You may have dodged a bullet.

He's happy with it, but it's not as clean as you would expect at 16k. It's been wrecked, fender and both passenger doors have been repaired and repainted. Somebody paid out-of-pocket to fix it as it's not on the carfax. He said it appears generally neglected, but will be very good with a little lovin'. My car was his car originally, so 9 years later he's come back into the fold...

I know I overpaid for my recent RX-8 purchase but it was what I really wanted so I am ok with it.

A very, very clean 09' R3 (Black) with compression ratios in the mid 7's. Only 28,000 km on the odometer and 19k Canadian $.

So far, I'm pretty pleased.

FWIW - I paid $12K for my 2010 GT with 26K miles with impeccable service records - all dealer maintained, had gas receipts, log book, and 3000 mi OCI.

I noticed lately that R3 prices have crept up here in BC.

S2 in general is kinda pricey. It's fair, though, seeing that the S1:S2 production number ratio is about 10:1.

I actually rarely see any S2 on CL that's not an R3. There is an AT GS around where I live and that's about it. My GT is actually a bit of a unicorn, LOL.

I just paid $4900 for my sunlight silver '09 sport mt. 29k miles, rebuilt title. It's in excellent condition, though someone bumped it in a parking lot and I need to straighten the bumper bracket and oil cooler, touch up some paint, and polish a headlight.

That's a great price for that car. But why the salvage title?

I was told it was a small front end collision and the airbags were not deployed. A family member that looked at for me (since it was out of state) saw the original front bumper. Though the radiator core support does show some evidence of being straightened. It feels and drives like new though, and the rest of the car (interior and exterior) is a 9/10.
