Price of a quart of Oil.
Just curious to know why the price of gas has been dropping so much but the price of my Castrol GTX 5w20 has been going up. Now a quart of this stuff costs $3.99 at my local Autozone in New York.
Are prices the same across America? |
Good ? that's what is is around here 3.49 to 3.99....I bought a qt of PennZoil Marine for premix last night at autozone and it was 3.99 I thought that was alot but def cheaper than a new motor...
|
Name brand oil is always on sale around here - with or without rebates - for a buck a quart or less.
There are so many damn auto parts stores - Pepboys, Autozone, Murray's, Advanced Auto, O'Reilly, Carquest, Napa, plus the oil they sell at Walmart, Target, Sears, etc., etc. |
I get my oil at Sam's or Costco, buy a box with 12 quart bottles for 25$ for Mobil1
|
Or wallmart sells 5qt jugs of oil for pretty cheap. When ever I have to buy oil I just go into shucks and say "autozone has this for XX.XX will you beat that" and they always do! The oil for my ATV is like $9.99 and I always tell them its $5.99 at autozone.
|
Its my opinion that the gas is cheap b/c the economy is struggling and people are cutting back on buying fuel therefore the oil companies cant profit if the market crashes and people lose more jobs down the road. Also the price differs because of the refining process for each, if you noticed when gas prices shot up the oil prices stayed the same as always, its the process to produce each....and the economy situation has made them cut the price down IMO.

They only put the 6 quart box on display, but if you dig, you can find the 12 quart boxes :D
I always get em to get the forklift and get the 12 quart box from all the way at the top |
Thinking back to since I first starting buying Mobil 1 regularly, and it seems the cases were always 6 quarts. Redline's are 12.
Maybe it's a regional thing. :dunno: |
I am always just buying 5qt bottles form Walmart....GTX or Valvoline but around here the prices seem to fluxuate alot so i try to get it when it's cheaper i think 5 qt of GTX is like 16 buck and Valvoline is 13 or 11 idk been 2700 miles since i bought it haha...about time to change it...but i can make it till after x-mas

I got a 5qt jug of Castro GTX at Walmart for $14.49, in Socal

Are prices the same across America? almost every month Autozone will have some kind of oil change special. u can get like maybe 5 qts of GTX + STP/Borsch/whatever oil filter for maybe 16.99 or less. Plus, get the autozone reward card, every 20 dollars u spend will get u 1 point. limit to 1 point per day. points expire if u dont shop there in 6 months. every 5 point u get 20 "free" dollars to spend. |

I usually stick to valvoline, dad raised me on it lol, last time I bought it from walmart for 11.00 and its was the 5qt thing. Sometimes they have those .99/qt. deals at pepboys or wherever with a mail in rebate but I am too lazy to do the mail in rebate for a $5 check. I just bought like (3) 5qt. jugs to last me for a year, I tend to stock up on oil things, my dad used to have like 5 cases of oil in the garage from those .99/qt deals.

Royal purple went up to around $8.50 where im from. Bummer
|
some places charge 50 bucks to change your oil at mobile gas stations lol,
|
Ja, buy your oil by the case.
|
It does seem like GTX is the top liked brand around here!!!!

GTX is a fine oil.
However - 'liked' is such a mis-leading term; does the car like it? ....or does the owner like it because it's easy to find/well advertised/cheap?? What would a preference be based on? Have you seen the bearings from six different '8s, each run for 50k, each on a different oil? Probably not, so the likes are based on reputation, perception or third-party information - all subject to wild exagerations..... Personally, I use oil from 'reputable' sources, companies that supply the lubes for the huge and costly machines that I work with. My own biases rule out Castrol, because they make mostly automobile products so I don't have contact/experience with them. I work in a synthetic oil refinery for one of the biggest oil companies, and I can let you in on a small secret - for the 'problem' equipment - the things that break unless they get the best lubrication - we don't use our own brands, we use specialty synthetics from either Royal Purple or Mobil........
