Premix necessary on 09 R3
 

So im a new owner of an 09 RX 8 R3 and was looking into the idea of premixing which seems to have some good effects but I read that the R3 has three oil injector ports instead of just two so im wondering if I were to add a premix would it be adding to much oil to the engine which is bad. Should i go with a premix or not?

If it is an age old question, wouldn't it be assumed that it was covered in about 3743 threads already? Searching would have yielded the results you were looking for.

All the RX-8s from 09 on have the upgraded oiling system. People still pre-mix their series II RX-8's. if you are not driving your car on a race track then it is less important to pre-mix. many people do for that little extra piece of mind. there are many threads on pre-mixing.

the absolutely best thing you can do is read the stickies on this site. all of them. even if you think you will never need it. I have learn things in the most obscure threads. Youwill not get a definitive "yes" or "no" to all your questions but you will get good info from multiple people that really know something about these cars and cars in general and then you can make an informed choice on how to proceed with your car. Bottom line, no one here is going to pay for your engine if you F it up, but you will get lots of advice on how to fix it after you do...

We all do with all sorts of issues.

At 4 oz per tank I would do it regardless. That's hardly a sacrifice - other than the cost of the oil.

From what I researched on this forum, and in conversation with rotary builders from around the country, the reality seems to be that pre-mixing is recommended but not necessary for street cars. For high HP modified race engines, pre-mixing seems to be more relevant.

There are accounts of engine failures here on the forums of people that were pre-mixing. So go figure!!!

I've been pre-mixing since I bought the car - but I have a Series I, and most people here recommend pre-mixing for all Series I anyway.

That is exactly how I would say it. You can really feel the difference the first time you put premix in.
