Pre-Ordering or Waiting?
Who's Pre-Ordering
or waiting until any bugs are worked out? If waiting - WHY? |
Waiting.....for 2 major reasons.
1. I can't justify ordering one or putting a deposit down if I have never seen one in person and have never driven one. 2. Monetarily, it won't be ideal for me until late summer/fall. |
Pre-Ordering or Waiting?
Pre-ordered....
Because I have been a Mazda "fan" since the first Miata (with the "soft" crankshaft) - and they have never let me down. 90 Miata 97 Miata (Black Sport Package) 99 Miata 10AE 04 RX-8 (Lightning Yellow, 6-speed, Sport Pkg.) |
Waiting 'til Dec/Jan next year to order for a spring delivery. I'd like to see all potential bugs worked out (I had model #70, Dec/01 built FD - I know about the recalls), and hopefully by that time I'll get a deal on one after some of the demand has been satisfied.

Waiting.
Don't like buying first year cars. Need the hype to die down, no car is worth paying MSRP or above  Current lease expires spring 2004. |
How about pre-ordering AND waiting. I have pre-ordered, but told my dealership I don't want a car until end-July or August. I want to see what others think of the car over 2 months use before I will buy one. Most nit-picking issues will become visible very quickly and I will see if I can live with them. More serious and subtle problems can take a lot longer to show themselves but I assume those will be fixed by the dealership under warranty - sadly I can't wait that long as I need to replace my existng car by September 2003 (end of lease).
However if I had a choice I would never again get a brand new model in it's first year of production, just for all the little quality control tweaks and useablilty features that appear in the second year. If I decide against the RX-8 and go for the G35 Coupe I will definitely get a 2004 model (due Aug/Sept). |
I'm waiting until 2007 (note my User ID:)) because I'll be able to afford to pay cash then. Heck, I might even be able to save $10,000 - $15,000 by buying a 2005 or 2006 model if I wait until then. I have little concern about buying a first year Mazda. I've been driving my 1989 MPV for almost 14 years now. That was the first model year for the MPV and I've had no "first year" problems whatsoever on that vehicle.

I want to be the first person in my neighborhood to have the car and as far as I'm concerned I should be :) |

As bad as I want to preorder one, I don't think I'll be able to afford one until I get my Masters degree and get a "real" job. That's about a year and a half from now! :(

Originally posted by zoom44 hah! my wife got her masters last year and has a "real" job now. that's why i get the car. that was our deal- once she had both i could buy a new car! timing is everything:D We could "afford" one now, but for some reason my wife doesn't want every bit of my TA pay check to go towards the RX-8. I can't figure out why. :) -Stephen |
funny you say this... my g/f gets her degree either in the fall or the spring depding on how full time jobs and life treat us.. and I can have one after that.... of course part of my deal is producing a baby too..

I'd like to see some good reviews in the major auto magazines first...
I'm sure it will do ok, but they'll be quick to point out any major shortcomings. |
Anyone know for sure when the actual due date for preorders are? Mazda FAQs say 03.07.03. I've been reading on these boards that allocations were a lot sooner than that. I want to wait as long as I can until the deadline as I would go for a Mazdaspeed version if they can confirm it any time soon.
