power - 07 same as 06?

i've searched here and see stuff about mazda chanign the ecu tune on some model year cars.

are the 07 cars any faster or better tuned from the factory than 06 or 05 in term of power/torque?

assuming I didn't mod the car at all - is there any reason to get an 07 vs an 06 or are they the same in terms of real power?

thanks.

Assuming you are talking about MT, no increase in power yet since the 1st MY. Sorry.

RotaryP7 01-15-2007 02:15 PM

'06 & '07 AT are the same also. Lower than '06 is a decrease.

snizzle 01-15-2007 02:19 PM

Right, 212 on the AT vs 197 on the earlier models.

i thought i read that mazda retuned the ECU at some point and so later cars made more power????

as fasr as I can tell... the MT cars are 232 hp...

and even with bolt on mods...the car is never going to make much more power than that. obviously, slapping on nitrous or forced induction woudl change that...but in terms of "regular" budget mods like intake, exhausts...the car is making about how much power it will ever make.

(unlike my 1979 RX7 where I added a Racing Beat full exhaust and picked up a HUGE power gain..... bye bye thermal reactor hello revs + power..)

i know never cars are usually tuned pretty nice from the factory.

my 1999 Prelude SH... I added an AEM cold air intake..and honestly..it didn't do much but make more intake noise. although I added springs, shocks, and sway bars to that car and it made it handle MUCH better.

back to my point.... the 07 RX8 is still 232 hp...and if I read any of the OLDER car revies online where they do performance tests of the 04-05-06 models..I should assume that their numbers, specs, etc...in terms of acceleration and stuff..is all the same for an 07 as it would be for an 04 or 05 or 06??

Regardless of whether the ECU thing is true or not, can't you just get an older model and request the latest 07 reflash?

You people are sad.

ken-x8 01-15-2007 05:29 PM

They've been dropping the power. When the RX-8 first came out, wasn't it close to 250 HP? Then it went down to 238, then to 232. Hope they don't detune the '07s any further.

Ken

snizzle 01-15-2007 06:23 PM

It was never 250 in the first place. That's the problem, compounded w/the way they now rate HP and you get 232.

250 = 238 = 232

I take back what I said about sad.

Now it's fucking sad.

I think it's still 238hp. But under SAE measurements, it's 232hp. Even the STi under the SAE measurement makes less. I believe the Acura TL was the worse.... dropped quite abit.

the 07 type-R is the fastest RX8..its got a new set of camshafts and the manual 6 speed comes with a new beefy torque converter... not to mention the blinker fluid..

I heard that they also updated it to a V8. :evil_laug

I wonder how long before this thread is closed.

If an owner of a stock 06 or 07 manual is willing to dyno theirs I will give them $25 to cover part of the cost. I'm more than curious.

Paul.

This has been the holy grail of the RX-8 and has never materialized.

The MT engine produces roughly the same power it always has (since production started) and the only thing that has changed is the number that Mazda advertises (250, 247, 238, 232 ...).

For the AT, in 2006 the engine's HP increased because they started shipping cars with a rev limited version of the more powerful 6 port RENESIS vs the 4 port RENESIS they shipped in ATs for 2004 and 2005.

End of history lesson.
