Unhappy Please make it stop! Please!

Ok, so get this - Brand new Sunlight Silver 6SP Rotary Package stock (thank you, thanks all :p ) - 1 week old - approaching 500 miles - and guess what I did:

In one day (yes, one day, 8 hours actually):
- Scratched 4 inches of the rim on rear passenger side - hit the curb while backing up
- Left the rigth side wiper up while washing the car, tried to open the hood -left a chip on the corner of the hood -RIGHT in the centre of the rotary sign

Neither of these is visible to the naked eye - but I KNOW they are there
I don't think I'll sleep well tonight

****! How can I make myself stop! I feel like shooting myself in the foot - lesser pain than freakin' runing my baby - and will keep me away from spoling my precious

Make this stop! By the power of the "Gray Skull", make it stop!

P.S - Anyone else this compulsive obsessive about their RX-8. I know someone's gonna flame me and say "Duh, only EVERYONE", So go ahead flame me, maybe that'll knock some sense into me

A Duh, Only Everyone!! :p just j/king
I felt the same way months after buying mine but I quickly learned once you take your baby out on the open road, you just gotta take the chance that something might happen to her. I know,I know it's frustrating when she gets nicked or scratched but just take a few steps back, take a few deeps breaths and say to yourself "It's OK I can fix it, it's not that bad"

I did that on my hood as well lol it's no big deal you'll get a few more of those. The rim might take a while to get over. Sleep well.

Well, if it will make you feel better, I dinged mine with my lawnmower handle when it was a few weeks old. Not once, but twice. One scratch was pretty noticable so I had it touched up. The other is underneath my bra so not visible, although like you say, I know it's there. Had a rock put a ding in the windshield last week and had that repaired. Had a rock hit my "A" pillar the other day--touched that up myself. And my car is NOT Sunlight Silver!

As time goes by, I become less **** about such things. After all, it is just a car. Did I really say that? EEK!

Your Sunlight Silver touch-up paint will work well on the rim, too. A lot of us have a bottle of that in addition to our regular color. No one can see where I scratched my rim--not even me. I have to feel it with my fingertip to find where it happened. So, chill back with a beer.

Any suggestions about particular brand of touch up paint for my Silver? And for the rear wheel?

Additionally, I was thinking about getting the spare tire kit, only with an OEM Wheel and Tire, instead of the "spare" tire. IS that possible -do people know of dealers/websites where I can get this "package".

Also, anybody see any issues with this OEM Tire thingy - while changing tire in case of a flat? Such as OEM tire heavier, not so easy to put on, etc etc?

Now if only I can find the sleeping pills

you bought a silver...accidents are bound to happen...you obviously didn't read about the curse

as for backing into stuff...get a backup camera

well as for future problems all I can tell you is I've had my car for a year now...10K miles and not a single door dinge...I wish I could say I was lucky but IAM DEFINITELY NOT I just got off my lazy *** and parked in the back of a parking lot...drove around extra 10 minutes to find a safe spot where there is a curb on one side I can get close to and space on the other side

good luck!

I have the spare kit and I don't think you can use a full size spare with the bracket; and if you could you wouldn't be able to put anything else in the trunk after hanging it in the opening.
I took the bracket out completely and just toss the space saver spare in for trips over 100 miles, otherwise just call AAA or Mazda

Where would you put the full sized spare? Take one of your wheels off and put it in the trunk. It may fit, I haven't tried it, but if you can get it into the trunk there will be virtually no space left for much else. Even the donut spare takes up a lot of room.

Go to a dealer and find an '8 with the donut spare installed and have a look. You will see what I mean. I have the spare tire kit installed, but many other owners rely on the repair kit that comes with every car. (Now that I think about it, what will I do with the full-size flat tire once I replace it with the donut? )

The answer is simple: since the hood is scratched exactly in the center no problem, however, since only one wheel is scratched, the world is now out of balance. Therefore, you must scratch the opposite wheel to restore world balance again. If you do not do this, bad things will happen. :D

Tire Repair Kit Gunk Up Tire Sensor?

Anyone know, if the tire repair kit will gunk up the tire sensor? Would a new sensor need to be purchased or is there a way to clean it up? If the tire just needed a patch, then would an ordinary tire shop know how to do the clean up or must we only go to a Mazda dealer for tire repairs?

Mazda only. Nothing else will match properly. It's specifically formulated for your car. You should eventually get a complimentary bottle of Sunlight Silver touch-up paint in the mail from Mazda, but you can call or drop by the dealer to order some now if you don't want to wait.

First of all, it was suggested to me at my local dealership that any dismounting/mounting of tires from our wheels is best left to the dealers techs. (Of course, they have a vested interested in saying that.) The reason given was that if they break a TPMS sensor, they will replace it on their dime. If a tire shop breaks it, they may or may not spring for the sensor. And, according to them, dismounting the tires using the usual tools is a very ticklish job with very little clearance between the sensor and the edge of the tire for the tool to work in.

As far as tire repair gunk goes, my guess would be that it might be possible to clean it out the inside of the tire, but looking at the small hole in the TPMS sensor it would seem to me unlikely that the inside of the sensor could be completely cleaned of the gunk. BTW, TPMS sensors are $90 USD at either of our primary vendors.

I think I know how you are feeling now. But if it makes you feel better, here is my own ordeal:
I had my RX-8 for just 1 1/2 months, it was my self-given birthday present.
But just two days before my birthday, an 80 years old gentlemen ignored the
bright velocity red object right in front of him after a brief stop at his STOP sign.
The impact sent me on an almost 180 degree spin, even though I was only traveling
with about 15 MPH.

Result:
- Driver: Spent a day in the emergency room, still suffering from headache and spine mess-up
- RX-8: Sick at the body shop, approximately 13K$ repair.

The irony is, I was driving clunckers for 36 years with no accident, This was my first really new car.....

I feel for you man. My rex is my birthday/graduation gift too (self-given, of course :p ), and even a whiff of dust on it stings like a bee, what to say of things much worse.

I know I am gonna be 'old' someday too, but by god I hate oldies who drive like they are on Mars (even there they are gonna hit a freakin' alien). The older the get, the bigger their cars get and smaller their body frames. The other day this crazy old lady was driving a big *** Dodge SUV (looked like she came out of her grave and was late for her last game of bingo), she almost ran over a pedestrian when she jumped on the curb trying to take a right at freakin 80 mph She could barely see out of the windshield WTF

Rule: Above 65 you have to take a driving test every year, above to every 6 months, above 80 EVERY 3 months, and if you are above 85, HAVE A DRIVING INSTRUCTOR SIT NEXT TO YOU PERMANENTLY
