Pioneer AVIC F900BT

Hi guys..

I currently have a stock Bose system in my 04' rx8, I was wondering if it's possible to rip out the current head unit. Purchase a new faceplate and install the Pioneer AVIC F900BT and get it to work with the stock speakers/amp?
Any feedback, comment's, solutions would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Geoff

yes :)

GeoffJ 05-10-2009 11:28 PM

what about the steering wheel controls or maybe the dash volume/track display?

nuke0907 05-10-2009 11:32 PM

PAC SWI-PS and Metra dash kit. you won't need dash volume or track display when its on your stereo. search in the interior section for the Metra threads. lots of reading in those.

The adapter that comes with this dash, is it the steering wheel control unit?

You 100% will need a kit, get the Metra dash kit. Its MUCH cheaper than the other solution.

Oh yes SWI-PS is another one that you want.

but ... if you can return your AVIC F900BT back ASAP for a full refund ... that unit is not worth it IMO ... cuz I have F90BT and I can sell it to you for cheap if you want to try it ...

GeoffJ 05-11-2009 12:01 AM

the ebay link i posted, isn't that the metra kit? comes with a SWI-PS i think.

nycgps 05-11-2009 12:03 AM

Thats just the metra kit

the SWI-PS are always sold separately

Anyways can i get your oppinion on the AVIC F90bt. whats wrong with it?

nycgps 05-11-2009 12:11 AM

Its uber slow, at least to my standard, even with the 2.0 update.

the POI search is just stupid. you cannot just type the name of the buiness to find it. you have to at least know the address around that "area" to be able to find it.

it support USB flash drive play back, but if you leave it there, after you turn your car off, you have to re-plug your flash drive to get the music working again. and it killed one of my flash drive.

and tons and tons of other bugs.

Im going to sell it back out for maybe 300 bux or whatever soon. I need to get something else. first time using Pioneer unit, totally disappointed me. I should've stick with my Panansonic Strada, yea its much older at least it doesnt crash and no bugs whatsoever. and its fast since its HDD (F series are all flash based, maybe thats why its uber slow)

Thanks for the heads up, guess ill go look for some other headunits which offer the same or more feathers. :)

I like my f90bt (the premier version of pioneer f900) and the 3d nav is cool. IT is a little harder to work the nav than the older avic decks (I have an N3 in my truck and a D3 in my rx7). IT is also quite slow to start up, kinda like a desktop PC. It takes a good 30-45 seconds to gain full functionality when you first start the car. Also if you push too many buttons too quickly, it seems to freeze up for about 60 seconds or so, kinda like a computer will sometimes do. I have the reverse camera on mine, and it takes about 5-10 seconds for the deck to display the reverse camera input. By that time I have usually already backed up and driven away.

Yep, the Version 2.0 speed things up significantly. but still kinda too slow for me :( maybe I've been too spoiled by my Strada, which is HDD based (I installed it to my Honda FIT)

Wow not sure if u tried the older 1.0 firmware. u be like OMFG WTF IS THIS SHIT PIONEER FTMFL! it takes 3 full minutes sometimes 4 before your unit is "functional" lmao.

I've been thru all 3 version of firmware cuz I got F90BT when it first came out. I was about to take a hammer out and smack the shit outa it. jesus.

I still remember on second version (2.0 is 3rd), Pioneer said "This is already the maximum speed and there is nothing we can do about it" rofl. Then 2.0 came out. lol

Might have something to do with Windows for PPC.

Mine was preloaded with 2.0 when I bought it. It is still only "tolerable" rather than "good".
