Picking up my '10 R3 next Fri!

The day has finally come my friends!! I never thought I would be saying this at age 21, but thanks to the world's finest Navy, I will be the proud new owner of a brand spankin new red R3 next Fri. of Memorial Day weekend! I will post pictures when I get the car. My baby will be treated very well, as I have a daily driver that I run around the local New London Submarine Base area in. The R3 will be a Sunday-driver exclusively. Other than my step-dad taking it for a 40 mile drive every few weeks to keep things running smoothly, it will only see action when I make it home to Pittsburgh, which is about every 60 days or so. I'm honored to be a member of the club guys! And remember, submariners do it deeper!

hahahahahaha i like the submarines do it deeper thing lol!

Welcome to the club! Always nice to see another young guy (im 20) join the club and have the chance to own such an amazing car!

YOURE GOING TO LOVE IT! cant wait to see the pictures.

make sure you read up on the series 2 threads and make sure you know how to take care of your car.

and as a note, if you ever have a question, make sure you search before asking! members on here get very annoyed when people make new threads for questions taht have been asked a billion times before. =]

That's awesome that you're a young dude too. I know what I need to know for basic optimal operation like:
-Don't drive for short distances (say under 40 mi.)
-Check oil every other fill-up
-Leave engine run for a few minutes before shut down

My step-dad, who used to race Corvairs, is going to take it out for a spin every 2 weeks or so for me because I won't be home all the time. Anything special I should keep in mind being that it is going to be kept outdoors (car cover of course) and only driven here and there?

Don't drive under 40 miles? I don't think thats very good advice. I would say make sure the engine is fully warmed up before shutting down.

HomicidalApple 05-21-2010 07:06 PM

If the engine is warmed up, like if you just got back from driving it, then you odnt need to let it run for a few min before turning it off. Only if its still cold, you dont want ot turn the engine off when its cold because its bad for the apex seal.

But you do want to let it warm up before you drive off in the morning and then dont high rev it until its up to normal temp.

you can drive it short distances if you want just make sure the engine is warmed up before you turn it off

my 8 is my daily driver
