Pettit Racing Street Port!
 

Hey guys!

So it happened. My engine is dead. Without warranty. Going to replace it with fresh blueprinted street ported 6port engine, with full racing exhaust and intake.

Need some thoughts and any good or bad information about Pettit.
Also if anyone has gotten a street ported engine from them and your feedback!

Do it. Pettit is great.

I've never heard anything bad about them, except that they are fairly high.

I have a Pettit Racing Engine in my 2004 Rx8 and love it. More power, smooth, well built, service was good, and they provide a warranty to the engine as well. Cam will help you out.

I would do it in a heartbeat!

I shipped my car to Pettit from California and drove it back last week. Just visiting Cam at Pettit is worth the trip. He is a people and car person. He does it for the love of people and speed, not money. He has all sorts of prototypes and mods he loves to show off.

Do not bother emailing him or Pettit. He and his shop don't care for computers unless they are tuning for speed. Call him up, talk to him. He even gave me his personal cell phone.

I had a great day at his shop when I picked up my car. I have put 3200 miles on the engine since driving back from Florida, and they were flawless, the car smooth and powerful, and the gas mileage better. There is no warranty listed on the website, but he offers one and stands behind his products. He rebuilds every engine himself and makes sure to get rid of all known failure points from the factory.

I now premix with Protek. Its a couple of dollars to get 50k plus miles more.

Other shops do not talk about failure analysis, and their engines will most likely not last as long as a Pettit.

Did Cam charge you extra for the cut/glued coolant seals, or does that come standard? lol

Protek R is largely based on bullshit marketing, I had a back and forth with a Pettit employee on the the RR FB page and when I asked for the MSDS sheet it took him months to post it and then he was editing the .pdf of the MSDS as were were picking it part. It is just Klotz brand 2 stroke and there were a few things missing from the MSDS sheet. Conveniently. let me see if I can find it because I saved the original he posted before he tried to take i down and post the edited one.

How does one edit a MSDS sheet on the fly ? LOL I remember that stupid fight.

The point was that he posted what was supposed to be the MSDS sheet for Protek R, then we asked questions and pointed some things out that didn't make sense, then he took it down and reposted an edited version, and then that cycle repeated a time or two. So the MSDS sheet was bullshit, he just didn't count on me saving the original and us picking out inconsistencies. So either it was an intentional effort to deceive us or they just did not want to release the original MSDS and edited it. Either way it is just Klotz 2 stroke, that part has been proven a long time ago.

And .... isn't a felony for doing that btw ? Changing the MSDS sheets on the fly ?

Just saw your post about Petit. My Renesis is on its last legs and I'm considering going to Petit for rebuild. Have a couple questions:
1. How's your 8 so far?
2. Do you recommend any car shipping service? I'm in the SF Bay Area, Ca.
3. Did you do a full rebuild and install?
4. How much do I need to budget for this? I know the engine itself is about 5k. But was curious about labor and timing too.

1. I have a company car, so my beloved 8 is not a daily driver right now. I fire her up every weekend and she is very strong. No problems whatsoever. In fact, she feels better than the day I drove her off of the lot.

2. Cam sets up the car shipping service if you want, no charge. He does it based on price. I shipped the whole car, not just the engine.

3. I had the engine fully rebuilt. New petit clutch, lightweight flywheel, etc.

4. I did not plan on needing a new clutch or radiator, but had to tack those on. Shipping, the rebuild, and all of the additions ran about 9000. Shipping was before gas went so low, but it was about 1k one way. The engine was about 4k. Then there was short shifter, lightweight flywheel, clutch, steel brake lines, etc.

Craziness. But love is love :)

good lord. I could have done that job for a little over half of what you paid.

You know BHR is only like 400 miles from you too.
