I just took delivery yesterday, but drove a loaner all weekend. I was moved to join the forum because your eloquent praise for this car was precisely why I bought mine.

The incredible feeling of attachment (oneness) with the car is unmatched in this price range. I have driven many of the other cars you mentioned, but did not feel the same emotional charge with them as I do with the RX-8.

When you consider the styling, features, ergonomics, and the return of the rotary in the equation, the choice is simple.

Isn't it worth the risk of unproven reliability to feel like this when you drive? I think so.

By the way, I have a 35 minute mostly freeway commute to and from work, against traffic, and I can't wait to pour on the miles in my new daily driver. Workhorse? No. Pony express. Zoom-zoom! Hope to see ya on the road (in the rear view of course).

Less than 100 miles. But still problem free. :D To be honest though, I bought the car with 12 miles on it. Drove it home then checked out this forum. After reading about Ito's/Rikkis car, I was pretty nervous. Then after reading what they did to their cars, I did'nt feel nearly as bad.

All I can say is the car is a blast to drive! I can't wait until the break in period is over.

check sig. for car details...

just over 6500mi. (between 15-18 mpg, mostly highway, cracked 20mpg once)
zero problems thus far.
absolutely love it!
kickin' myself everyday for not gettin' the navi :(

pn a side note:
9 times out of 10 you're only gonna hear about the "bad stuff" (no matter what the subject matter)...especially on an "anonymous" internet forum.
how many times have u gone back to McDonald's to praise them because they got your order RIGHT? exactly...people speak up when there's something wrong and they "shut up and eat" when it's all good. someone made this point already but i wanted to stress that this is truly a societal issue...not exclusive to our little rx-8 internet world. ;)

I came away from all these test drives saying to myself…On a purely emotional standpoint, the RX-8 is just the best drive all-around.

...

Anyway, if I appear to be rambling…it is only because I am a bit disillusioned about my decision to purchase the 8.

Well, I did have the same feelings before I make my final decision. It's a great car, legendary, so and so ... but the rotary engine ....

I bought the car anyway, its high demand made it feel like a rush where you gotta take it or lose it. Salesmen said this car was then cheaper due to "introductory prices". My regret was I was not able to have enough time to test out 350z, TT, RSX, and similar class of performance and handling vehicles. I didn't have a car then, asking for rides isn't the easiest thing. I even had to rent a car to go to the dealer when they said my car arrived.

Enough of that! Now looking back, the car is truly amazing. I drove it for 2 months straight (nothing else but RX8). Then I started to drive other car and felt very "insecure". The feeling that a typical economy car is very loose, it can lose control anytime and would flip out doing a soft corner at 15mph. This is how great the RX8 drives that makes me feel all other regular cars (including those brand new luxury cars) feel real bad.

I worry about 10000 of things. I sure do baby the car, I worry about the noise it makes, is it a bit too loud? I worry about the smallest crack noise, little dirt on the paint etc... But truly, the real thing I complain about is the fuel economy. As advertised, it would do 18-24. But so far I have seen, it has done 14-19. Typical local drive gives me 15mpg, only when I take long trip (freeway only) would I get 19mpg. I even tried many styles of driving, but even the by-the-book style gives me similar result with mpg.

My car has 7200 miles so far. No tranny problem. I am very confident about how it shifts, even though 3-4 times I got into 6th instead of Reserve. My shifting is a lot smoother now comparing to when I first got my car. Engine problem? Well, no weird noise yet. But I do learn that you gotta keep the 8 above 3000 rpm even if you tried to save fuel. I hate that scary grunting sound when you try to run it at 2000rpm thinking it might save fuel, while I think it wastes more fuel that way.

2 reasons keep me away from driving my car everywhere I go: 1.Gas economy. 2.Mileage on my car, 2.5months and I have done 7000miles, at that rate I would reach 100,000 miles in less than 5 years.

Other than that ... I greet any RX8 that I see, as they greet back, as if we are now affliated to some kind of club membership. So far, I have seen 10, 4 drives around in my area, and last week, some 8 drove by me and freaked me out since it's also blue, I thought someone stole my car.

1.5 months, 1,200 miles, 19 MPG, zero problems, 100% enjoyment. I second every positive comment above. It's a wonderful smooth quick composed fun sophisticated beautiful car.

um im at 1100 miles (not hight mileage) after one month... simply the best car I have ever owned, zero problems.

I just figured out how that home link, garage door opener gets programmed... pretty sweet.

this is a car. it is man made, it will break sooner or later. if cars were meant to last forever they would and you can bet your asses they would cost 10 times as much. CARS BREAK!!!!
All Makes and models have there Percentages of POS cars. Its part of the car life. It will nevere change. The best cars in the world still have there bad few. Just buy one if it turns into a POS then run the F'er of a cliff and take the insurance claim.
