people in DFW Texas - ever use A/S tires?

hello,

I'm in NE fort worth (met a few of yall at the meet) and I know a few times a year it gets *** cold possilby snow's/ices up here. I'm currently running on Avon Tech M550's All season tires that only have 8000 miles on them from when I had to work in Arkansas and it DID get crappy ice up there.

My question is, how many of you guys actually switch out tires for the winter here in the metroplex, and how many just run straight high performance summer tires all year?

These All seasons are pissing me off since I dont need them at the moment and have my stock potenzas with only 8400 miles sitting back home waiting to get used up (yes the OEMs are louder but I can deal with that till they wear out - i just want something that actually performs) The main reason I got these M550's was becuase at the time I was working in AR, I wanted to make sure I didnt run my car off the side of a mountian or something due to summer tires. Now im sitting on the M550s and the Potenzas when i REALLY wish I could be riding on some Yokohama AVS ES100's

Just as a side note: what would you reccommend I do? I want to put my potenza's back on this weekend when I go home and see if I can sell these M550's to whoever might need them.

Any thoughts are appreciated.
Jeff

When the weather gets cold or wet I switch to Michelin Pilots. It's pretty easy since they're mounted on the the other car I drive.

Before moving to Texas I lived in NC and never worried about swapping out tires when it was cold or even when it snowed even on the sports cars I owned at the time. If the RX8 was my only car I wouldn't hesitate to run the Dunlops it came with in the cold.

I've always been using the Potenzas. When it got icey for a few days, I either just didn't go out much (it was the winter holidays), drove cautiously or just drove another car.

Can't wait to change the tires btw.

Don't need A/S tires in Dallas area. When the few days come when roads are icy (and they are very very seldom) you don't want to be on the roads no matter what tires you have.

Since we don't have many ice days down here, very few know how to drive on the ice. This causes so many accidents, traffic comes to a standstill. On ice days in Dallas, don"t worry if you can stay on the road without sliding, worry about the idiots (many in low cost cars without insurance) driving next to you and behind you. Those careless idiots slide down the road until they hit something, and that something could be you. These idiots don't care if you have A/S tires on not, your just a target.

AMEN! I was in Dallas for business last January, and it had iced overnight. I was staying at the Omni Park West Hotel (635/LBJ and Luna) and watching the traffic on the LBJ looking like a bumper car ride at the fairgrounds!

I called my client and said I'd be staying at my hotel until the ice melted off the roads - which it did about 10:00 AM.
