Pela 6k works great! Used it on my S2
Did my first oil change today using the Pela 6000. I removed just under 5 quarts of oil (the lines on the container are liters)!
(4 quarts and still going) http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._3047470_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._7329417_n.jpg I have a picture of the container once the pump was complete but I will need to resize it. Either way, I managed to replace the filter, and then refill with 5w-30 prestone yellow :). But damn, i think my next investment is going to be a filter relocation because getting to that thing honestly requires a trained contortionist ape to get to, and lets not even discuss getting the new one in there. |
Cool, I have been contemplating getting one of these.

I've used mine for almost 3 years. I've never cracked the oil drain plug on my car. Thing works great, especially for a guy who lives in an apartment and prefers synth oil.

Will it get rid of the gunk that settles down everywhere?
|
how hard it is to use ramps?

As far as the gunk, i don't know if it would remove any more than conventional methods. I assume that due to the vacuum it may actually suco some up, but who knows |
how much are one of these? I could make a ton of money with this thing
|
You guys are doing it wrong. Just install a Fumoto valve. It costs about $30. You never have to open the drain plug again, and you don't need to jack up the car. Just reach under and flip it.

How safe is the Fumoto valve?. It kinda has a rare chance of accidental draining when u hit something sticking out of the road.
|
What happens if the valve sticks and leaks, or gets old and wears out and leaks. This car already makes you check oil enough for me, I think I would rather just stick with my magnetic drain plug. Plus pulling the drain plugs ensures to me that its not going to have a bolt seize on.

Also change the engine oil of my Renesis HP S1 with a PL 6000 Pela Oil Extractor.
LHD car jacked up at passenger side; manage to extract 4,9-5 ltrs (5.2 quarts) from a total engineoilcontent (incl 2 oil coolers) of 6,7 ltrs. (conform Instruction Manual) This is fairly better than the indication from the service manual, stating an extraction of 3,3 resp 3,5 ltrs. (incl. oil filter) during normal service at a Mazda-servicestation. I am rather enthousiastic about this method of oilchange and namely the relatively large content that could be extracted, which is considerably more as with the standard service procedure. http://www.pelaproducts.com/description.htm Furthermore I use ARAL (part of BP Group) Super Tronic fully synthetic engine oil 0W40 / lowSAPS (seems better for longer cat-life and lower carbon/ashresidu's in combustion chamber) / ACEA A3, B3, C3; API SM/CF. and Premix with fully synthetic 2 stroke oil (CEC/API:TC+ JASO FC (lowsmoke) ISO-L-EGD PIAGGIO-SI SITI) since car has made a total of 5000 miles. http://www.oelshop24.de/products/0/0...nic-0W-40.html Best regards, Ruud (1 Ltr.=1.0567 Quart) |
Damn it only costs $60... I was figuring they would charge way more, thats worth it if thats the route you wanna go. Either way you have to jack the car up or use ramps to get to the oil filter though, so seems like it wouldnt be worth getting. Your already gonna have the car in the air, why not just drain it then.

for that price m gonna buy one!

This is a great idea, ramps are a pain in the ass when you are lowered and honestly jacking it up is too even with a race rack (I have to drive on wood to get the extra inch or two). The Fujimoto valve has been known to leak and you would still have to use ramps or jacks.

P.S. another good thing, is that this is great for those of you who accidentally overfill your oil. |
Yeah I have a friend who uses something like this on his BMW M Coupe and I have always wanted one but my only hesitation is that the tube would not secure properly to the dipstick tube. Now I know this one will work.
Oh, and for us Series I guys we can use this to change our oil with just the hood open since our oil filter is easily accessible :) |

Well, I would take your more inconvenient oil filter location over our lack of a third oil injector any day :)
|
Lol true, at least mine can be fixed with a relocation :p
|
Agreed with 9k about 3rd nozzle but prefers a gravity fed omp vs the electric one.
|
Didn't they just relocate the filter for 09? I just bought Rhino ramps I hope I can get the car on them with my lowering! I had a similar extractor, the one from Griot's Garage (it broke soon after), after the mechanics kept stripping the oil pan threads on my poorly designed Honda so I just left an oversized plug in it permanantly.. . I woulda changed the oil myself but it was such a PIA. But i'm not going thru the pan thing again so changing myself all the time now with the 8! I figure as long as u gotta crawl under and take the filter off anyway, you might as well just undo the drain plug--its already a mess.
So I'm gonna be left with 2.5 Qts of dirty oil in the oil coolers/lines? Wonderful. |
Well the thing is on the S2 the drain plug is closer to the front, so you would need to jack up the front, undo the plug, then bring the car back down so that all the oil drains. Next you gotta do some rocking back and forth to get some oil out of the lines. The thing with the pump is that I can just leave the car level and pump out a lot more oil than most have reported through the plug (i got about 5 liters out) and only jack up the car to quickly replace the filter. Personal preference really

I have converted to a single larger oil cooler and I get about 4.5-5 quarts out during a change but with a typical change you will only get out about 3.5 quarts. I measured all this when I did my single cooler install.
Heck, when I removed my oil pan to install the Mazmart kit there was more than a quart left in the pan and that was after I drained the oil. |

When I removed my pan there was no gunk but the motor only had like 10,000 miles on it and I usually change my oil under 3,000 miles.
