PDR Training...
 

OK so like most of us in this forums, i have lil dings on my car, now summer is coming fast and i was thinking of PDR (paintless dent removal) on my car but,i kinda want to do it myself not only to take the dents and dings out but to learn in case sh@# happens. Now Does anybody know a place that would give u training at affordable prices? and if anybody else is interested can we go as a group to get discounts?? i found a place but they charge either 3500 or 4500 for the class and i think is 1 week, they give you the tools either a 14 piece set or for the 4500 a 31 piece set.

BTW the place is in NJ 20 mins from the airport, 20 mins from NYC.

PDR is a very difficult and time-consuming process, but it can produce excellent results. I had it done to my car on about 5 dents (thats what you get when you buy used) and on the worst dent, they cracked the paint off and had to repaint the entire driver's side. Still, it only cost about $450 for the whole thing (the repaint was complimentary). You'd have to remove a hell of a lot of dents to make back your $4500, and then if you ruin the paint no one's going to cover your ass. I don't think its worth the money.

What kind of places offer PDR? Is this a new thing, or has it been around a while. And how much does this typically cost?

Ask around at body shops to see who can do it. Typically costs $100 per hour of labor, so get an estimate. Like I said, mine was about $450.

well the place i found is a training center, they did say my dings would go from 75 to 125 for a dent i have on the right side fender. i just want to learn how to do it myself, so far what i was reading NYC dent werks are the most popular one.

Best bet is just to get a good look at the tools (pics are available online), gets some body panels from a junkyard and start practicing.
Its just rubbing.
A fluorescent light source and a bright yellow piece of cardboard makes it easier to see the dent and a heat gun will help with keeping the paint from cracking.
