Parking and curbs.

Hi.
Just wanted to say that I have scratched my wheels, front and rear right side, minor scratched, upon parking.

On the very few occasions when I got too close to the curb ( always cautiously, as in a new area, trying to park close to the curb to avoid car sticking out ) and barely touched the curb, I noticed that my wheels scratch, and easily scratched.

I have the stock tires that came with my car, perhaps I should get a little wider size upon getting a new set when due. I want to use that occasion to paint my wheels black too, but now I think I will have to get the wheels finnished before paint, or else the paint will come off upon changing tires/mounting.

Any thoughts?

wheels do curb easily, you just need to give yourself more room when parking.
Maybe look into something like this? http://www.lanefx.com/ParkFX/
(not sure if anyone has one installed on an 8 yet...)

Yeah, I hate shit like that too. I also hate when people make parkinglot entrances real steep, so you have to go 2 MPH up it, or bottom out a little. It sucks MORE when they put the entrance right on Main Street, which is packed with people, and you will get T-Boned if you don't hurry your ass up!

you need some Curb feelers, or some wider tires.

Hi.

Those BBS beauty rings work good. That is what those were known as, Beauty Rings, came in seventies and eighties cars that used stock steel rims enhanced by beauty rings.

The idea is good, but those would have to be taylor made for our wheels to fit snuggly.
I would be inclined to get a tire with more substance, perhaps a lower profile ( 40 aspect ratio) and a little wider, that would create a area of cushion.
I thought about moving the mirror, but that is a hassle, most of us would not do it.
It is only 1 out of 200 parking events that a wheel hits the curb, and that is all it takes to leave a "forget me not" signature on the wheel:icon_no2:

About the scrathed surface, anybody tried to soften it?, in case of powder coating my wheels, I am going to have to smoothen out those knicks, or else paint would chip off those sections when mounting new tires.

I am going to try spray painting my wheels first, because after or at time of changing tires I will get the wheels powdered , so meanwhile a good spray paint will do.
Por15 brand has some wheel paint, anyone tried it?

I am surprised wheel manufacturers have not thought about something given the nature of todays' low profile tires, something about scratches. That BMW BBS seems a smart precautionary /preventive measure.

Would there ever be a rotary car from Germany??? in fact, Mr Wankel , the father of Rotary engines is German himself.
