Parents with little kids, help me out please

So my sister is flying in and needs to be picked up from the airport. No problem, but I need to know if her carseat will fit in the RX8. I know the car has the LATCH system, but has anyone who has kids ever fit a carseat with approx. these dimensions in their 8? If so did you have to move the seat forward really far or anything?

Otherwise I'd have to drive my wife's car and let her drive the 8 :shocking: :shocking: :shocking:

I have two infant seats that fit fine in the 8. Our booster seats, on the other hand, don't fit so well. My only recommendation is to put down a towel or something between the little seat & the big seat, so the leather doesn't show stress marks from the contact points.

I bought a fuzzy bath mat @ Wallyworld, put the carpet side against the leather (rubber side up) and the Eddie Bauer Overstuffed car seat fits well. It protects the leather well.

You should have no problem with a car seat. I would recommend the towel - the stress points are one thing but babies aren't known for being the cleanliest creatures.

Lol, I hadn't thought of that. I have cloth seats so I don't worry about leather. But baby spills are another issue.

My booster seat (my child's booster seat that is) I put in slightly cocked because it covers the seat belt latch. But other than that fits fine.

Based on the angle of the car seat you may need to move the seat forward just to prevent kicking the back of your seat.

Bigger problem will be the luggage fitting into the trunk!

Rent a car and save yourself the stress.

Let your wife drive the 8. Saves you the stress and money. Or are you saying you would be stressed having your wife driving your 8?

Still put down a towel. Don't want the lines to show in the fabric from the seat pressure.

I've had 4 different models of child seat , all different sizes, in my car just fine. The towel thing is a good idea. Not only for the marks, but for the mess that childrent inevitably leave in thier wake.

The seat will fit fine I have the same car seat for my 9 month son.

Excellent. That's exactly what I was hoping to hear.

I'm glad to hear that too, because we'll be upgrading from a Graco infant carrier to a Britax Marathon in a few months, and I was kinda wondering how the Britaxs fit in there.

jwitzer 03-23-2006 03:38 PM

Britax Wizard. No problem.

Behind me. And I drive long-legged.

Exegeses 03-23-2006 10:01 PM

Yeah... Two carseats are no problem...

The only problem are the two kids kicking you in the back during the entire ride!!!

alcimedes 03-23-2006 10:03 PM

Maybe I'll get to try the old "Don't make me pull this car over!" line. Sweet.

Although my neice is only 8 mo. or so, so probably not just yet.

When mine is in the back it sits tilted a bit to one side. My son loves the 8 and we don't drive it much (40 miles total so far this year) so he doesn't complain. I just get more "go fast" comments than anything else.

You shouldn't have any trouble with it. I have the Chicco Cortina Rear Facing Infant Carrier with the Latch system and it fits perfectly into the 8. Anything front-facing should be fine. With my rear facing one, I have to bring the passenger seat forward but since my wife is only 5 ft 4, she still has 2-3 inches of leg room. The towel idea is a good one, but make sure you tighten the seat in very well so it doesn't slip around on the towel. I have a specific car seat protector (from Target) but if this is only a one-time thing for you, a towel should work fine.
