The parameters of flooding - if you flooded please respond

I see that Rotary Nut has a new flooding poll going. I'd like to come at this from a different angle and try to come up with some metrics on when you are at risk of flooding. The questions I'm asking here I think are the important parameters, but I'll be happy to modify this if somebody thinks I've missed something.

If you believe you flooded your car, please provided these details as best you can remember or guess for each incident:

- How cold was it where you parked your car before you started it?

- How long did you run your car before you shut it down or stalled it?

- How long a wait did you have before you tried to restart your car?

- If that wait was significant, how cold was it in the new location (if different from your starting point)?

- Did you try the emergency start procedure and did it work?

Thanks ahead for responding. I think we can collect some good, useful data here.

My Flooded Experience

How cold was it where you parked your car before you started it?

It was 8C or 47F

How long did you run your car before you shut it down or stalled it?

I started my car it ran for 15 seconds then studdered and failed and wouldn't start again.

How long a wait did you have before you tried to restart your car?

I tried to restart immediately, then read book on Emergency Restart, tried it a few times then called Mazda and they told me to remove spark plugs, start it and then clean plugs and put them back in. I thought this to be too long a procedure and attempted the Emergency restart (20 minutes from initial Failure) and it started up after about the 5th try. Loads of White smoke bellowing out the pipes.

If that wait was significant, how cold was it in the new location (if different from your starting point)?

No temperature change occurred.

Did you try the emergency start procedure and did it work?

Yes it worked after about the 9th try in total.

Cheers

Gaels,

thanks for getting the response started. You already disturbed my grand scheme for finding and reporting statistically meaningful trends by letting us know you can flood the engine at moderate temperatures while it's still running. Ouch.
